The Hurricane Mesa Test Facility (HMTF) is a unique R&D test site that validates ejection seat systems and subsystems using a supersonic rocket sled track. Testing spans sledtrack events with aircraft-representative bodies and anthropometric manikins from zero airspeed/altitude up to and beyond the speed of sound, along with a broad spectrum of subsystem and energetic component tests.

The HighSpeed Camera Engineer serves as HMTF's subjectmatter expert (SME) for highspeed imaging used in sledtrack and subsystem testing. This role owns the lifecycle, readiness, and performance of sled highspeed camera systems and ensures reliable capture of critical imagery for each test event. The engineer collaborates closely with test leads and customers on camera planning, setup, execution, and posttest video review. This role also supports general test activities as needed for all types of tests at the facility.

What You'll Do

  • You will own the lifecycle of high-speed camera systems, including configuration, lens selection, calibration, maintenance, and system upgrades.

  • You will prepare and operate sled-mounted and fixed high-speed cameras during testing, ensuring proper setup and pre-test readiness

  • You will capture, organize, and deliver high-speed footage, supporting post-test reviews with customers and end users

  • You will collaborate with test engineers to integrate cameras into sled hardware and test fixtures.

  • You will contribute to camera capability improvements, including mounts, enclosures, and supporting hardware.

  • You will work safely around propulsion and energetic systems in outdoor field-test conditions.

  • You will support general test-site operations and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Extensive experience or specialized training with hi-speed camera systems

  • Experience with Ametek Phantom cameras and PCC software

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in test environments, preferably in an aerospace or defense setting and/or with energetic materials

  • Experience building custom camera mounts and mounting cameras on moving subjects such as vehicles or test sleds

  • Experience with other types of camera systems including still cameras, cinemas, and alternatives to Phantom hi-speed cameras

  • Experience with aircraft escape system testing

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Fieldbased work on an expansive test range with desert conditions and variable weather; handson activities around heavy equipment and energetic systems.
Occasional offhours/weekend based on program schedules.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
