What are High Scope teachers?

High Scope teachers are educators who implement the HighScope educational approach, which focuses on active participatory learning for young children. These teachers guide children through hands-on experiences, encouraging them to make choices, solve problems, and engage in purposeful play. High Scope teachers observe, interact, and provide a structured environment that supports each child’s development. Their role emphasizes building positive relationships and fostering independence and critical thinking skills in students.

How does a teacher implementing the HighScope curriculum typically collaborate with other educators and staff in an early childhood setting?

Teachers using the HighScope approach often work closely with fellow educators, assistants, and support staff to create a consistent and supportive learning environment. Collaboration includes regular team meetings to discuss individual child progress, lesson planning, and sharing observations from daily activities. Teachers also coordinate with specialists (like speech or occupational therapists) and participate in ongoing professional development to stay aligned with the HighScope philosophy. This team-based structure fosters open communication and ensures that each child’s developmental needs are met through a unified approach.
