Description

The Middle and High School History Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction in history, including but not limited to U.S. History, World History, and Integrated Social Studies. The teacher will cultivate critical thinking skills, historical reasoning, and an understanding of historical contexts while preparing students for future academic pursuits and informed citizenship.  

The ideal candidate fosters a structured yet intellectually stimulating classroom environment that promotes curiosity, inquiry, and academic excellence.  

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in historical themes, events, and figures across various time periods.  
  • Prepare students for advanced coursework and assessments, including AP exams in U.S. History and World History (if applicable).  
  •  Develop lesson plans aligned with state standards and/or College Board frameworks.  
  •  Incorporate real-world applications and interdisciplinary connections (politics, geography, economics).  
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs.  
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and assess student understanding.  

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).  
  • Valid state teaching certification (preferred).  
  • Experience teaching middle and high school history (specific experience in U.S. History and World History required).  
  • Experience preparing students for AP exams (preferred).  
  •  Strong content knowledge in historical themes, events, and historiography.  
  • Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.  
  • Strong classroom management skills.  
  • Proficiency with educational technology.  
  •  Strong communication and organizational skills.  
  • AP History certification or College Board training is a plus.  
  • Experience with interdisciplinary teaching and project-based learning is preferred.
