Director of Loss Control and Risk
TenCate Americas
Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee, or Remote
Travel: Regular U.S. travel required
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer, TenCate Americas

Company Overview

TenCate Americas is part of TenCate Grass, a global leader in synthetic turf systems and components for sports, recreation, and landscaping applications. Its operations include manufacturing, distribution, construction, installation, and field-based services across North America.

Position Summary

TenCate Americas is seeking an experienced Director of Loss Control and Risk to help lead its enterprise-wide risk strategy across a distributed, multi-site operating model.

Reporting to the CFO of TenCate Americas, this position will help manage property and casualty insurance programs, workers’ compensation, auto liability, and general liability, with a strong emphasis on construction-related risk, field operations, and large-fleet exposure.

The Director will partner with safety, operations, and executive leadership to identify and mitigate risk across manufacturing, installation, and field-based environments while improving claims performance, insurance structures, and total cost of risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CFO and other team members to manage property and casualty insurance programs, including renewals, broker relationships, and coverage strategy.

  • Oversee workers’ compensation, auto liability, and general liability claims, driving effective resolution and cost containment.

  • Develop and implement loss-control initiatives across manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and field-installation environments.

  • Partner with the safety department to reduce risk associated with vehicle and equipment fleets and mobile crews.

  • Collaborate with operations leadership to improve safety practices involving installation, outdoor work, and contractor coordination.

  • Analyze claims data and trends to identify root causes and implement corrective actions across business units.

  • Manage relationships with third-party administrators, carriers, adjusters, brokers, and legal counsel.

  • Oversee self-insured retentions, deductibles, and other applicable insurance programs.

  • Establish consistent claims-reporting, incident-management, and risk-governance processes across operating locations.

  • Support mergers and acquisitions through risk due diligence and the integration of acquired operations into TenCate standards.

  • Provide executive leadership with regular reporting on risk exposure, claims trends, and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • At least 10 years of experience in risk management, insurance, loss control, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting construction, manufacturing, multi-site industrial, or similarly complex organizations preferred.

  • Deep expertise in workers’ compensation, auto liability, general liability, and property claims management.

  • Experience managing construction-defect and fleet-related exposures.

  • Experience managing large, complex claims portfolios and high-severity risks.

  • Strong knowledge of insurance-program structures, including self-insured retentions and captives.

  • Experience managing brokers, carriers, and other external partners.

  • Proven ability to influence operational leaders and support enterprise-wide safety improvements.

  • ARM, CPCU, or a comparable professional certification preferred.

  • Experience interpreting claims data and using findings to guide loss-prevention strategies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership.

  • Experience developing standardized risk-management processes across multiple locations.

Technical Skills and Core Competencies

  • Property and casualty insurance-program management.

  • Workers’ compensation, auto liability, general liability, and property claims management.

  • Claims analysis, root-cause identification, and corrective-action planning.

  • Knowledge of self-insured retentions, captives, deductibles, and related insurance structures.

  • Construction, installation, manufacturing, and fleet-risk assessment.

  • Strategic decision-making and sound judgment when managing complex or high-severity claims.

  • Strong negotiation and external-partner management skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex risk matters clearly to operational and executive audiences.

  • Cross-functional leadership and organizational influence.

  • Strong financial awareness and understanding of total cost of risk.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a decentralized, acquisition-driven, or highly distributed organization.

  • Experience supporting large vehicle fleets, mobile crews, and field-based operations.

  • Familiarity with construction and installation risk and high-risk workers’ compensation environments.

  • Experience supporting property and casualty programs with significant annual spend.

  • Experience with risk due diligence and post-acquisition integration.

Work Environment

This position may be based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, or performed remotely. Regular travel to TenCate operating locations throughout the United States is required.

The role involves work in professional office settings as well as visits to manufacturing facilities, construction and installation sites, and other active operating environments.
