Position Summary
The Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all building systems at The Travis. This includes HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable standards.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot complex systems, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance to support consistent building performance in a luxury high-rise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Building Systems & Maintenance
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all major building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems (BMS)Â
- Monitor and maintain equipment such as chillers, boilers, pumps, and domestic water systems to ensure consistent performanceÂ
- Complete service requests promptly and professionally, maintaining a high standard of quality and resident experienceÂ
- Perform routine inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment, and common areas to identify and address issues earlyÂ
- Execute preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifeÂ
- Maintain accurate service logs, equipment records, and compliance documentationÂ
- Assist with system testing, commissioning, and ongoing performance optimizationÂ
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control operating costsÂ
- Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors, ensuring work meets quality and safety standardsÂ
- Support capital projects, system upgrades, and ongoing building improvementsÂ
- Manage inventory and ordering of maintenance suppliesÂ
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable local and state regulationsÂ
- Support fire and life safety systems, including inspections, testing, and documentationÂ
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentÂ
- Work closely with onsite leadership to prioritize service requests and operational needsÂ
- Support team training and share technical knowledge as neededÂ
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours maintenance and emergencies
Qualifications
- 5–7+ years of experience in multifamily building maintenance, preferably in a high-rise environmentÂ
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systemsÂ
- Experience with BMS preferredÂ
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentsÂ
- EPA certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days)Â
- CPO or additional certifications preferredÂ
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Trade school or technical training preferred; degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field is a plus
- Valid driver’s license requiredÂ

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and heavier with assistanceÂ
- Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and varying weather conditionsÂ
