High rise window cleaners follow strict safety protocols, including the use of harnesses, anchor points, and specialized platforms or bosun’s chairs. Daily routines often start with equipment inspections and safety briefings to ensure all gear is in optimal condition. Workers must consistently adhere to regulations set by OSHA and local authorities, which may include working in teams for added security and performing regular risk assessments. These measures are crucial for minimizing hazards and fostering a culture of safety, but they can also require additional time for setup and breakdown each day.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a high rise window cleaner?

To thrive as a High Rise Window Cleaner, you need physical fitness, a strong sense of balance, and familiarity with safety protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge and certification in using rope access systems, scaffolding, and personal protective equipment (PPE) are typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure personal safety, deliver high-quality cleaning results, and maintain trust with clients in hazardous work environments.

How much does a high rise window cleaner make?

High rise window cleaners typically earn between $15 and $30 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $30,000 to $60,000 depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the building. Skilled workers with safety certifications and experience in using harnesses and scaffolding tend to earn higher wages.

Job description

High-Rise Window Cleaning & Power Washing Technician
Clearview Building Services - an RL James Exteriors company
Location: Fort Lauderdale / Palm Beach area, FL • Multi-site Type: Full-time
Pay: $14-$28 / hour, based on experience and certification Reports to: Operations Leader
Cleaning glass and washing facades at heights up to 500 feet is work most people never get to do. If you're steady at heights, take safety seriously, and want a real trade - not just a job - Clearview will train you, certify you, and grow your pay as your skills grow.
What You'll Do
  • High-rise window cleaning and power washing on commercial buildings - up to 500 feet - using rope access, rapid rope, and aerial lifts (boom lifts, swing stages, powered platforms)
  • Mid-rise and ground-level cleaning with water-fed poles (up to 60 ft) and ladders
  • Set up and operate Rope Descent Systems (RDS) and scaffolding
  • Power wash facades and exterior surfaces with high-pressure equipment
  • Handle cleaning solutions such as chlorine and ammonia safely and to protocol
  • Load, transport, and maintain equipment and company vehicles
  • Document each job with before / during / after photos and complete work orders
  • Follow OSHA-compliant safety protocols on every job, every day

What You Need
Required
  • Comfortable working at significant heights (up to 500 ft) in Florida weather
  • Physically able to manage rope systems and equipment weighing 75-100 lbs, lift ~50 lbs regularly (including up ladders and stairs), and stay active through the full workday
  • Valid Florida driver's license with 2+ years of Florida driving history
  • At least 2 months of hands-on aerial lift experience (boom lift, swing stage, or powered platform) - or a verifiable background working at heights
  • Willing to complete high-risk work training before or upon hire (we provide it)
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred - not required, we train
  • Rope access or rapid rope experience
  • SPRAT or IRATA certification
  • Power washing experience

We invest in the right people. If you're safety-minded and steady at heights but don't yet have rope or lift experience, we still want to hear from you.
What You Get
  • Pay of $14-$28/hour based on experience and certification - top of range for experienced, certified rope access technicians
  • Steady, year-round work with overtime available
  • Free training and certification through the University of Clearview - we develop technicians from the ground up and help you earn the certifications that raise your pay
  • A clear path to advance: your pay and your role grow with your skills and certifications
  • Health and supplemental insurance options
  • Paid time off and paid company holidays
  • A team that has your back, and a safety-first culture that's real - not just on paper
