Chemours is seeking a highly skilled Principal Corrosion Engineering Specialist to advance our corrosion and materials technology initiatives, supporting global manufacturing and innovation. This on-site role at our world-class Discovery Hub in Newark, DE is ideal for a proven technical leader ready to drive impactful projects and mentor others.

As Chemours' subject matter expert in corrosion management, you will lead major projects spanning process development, capital investments, and troubleshooting complex issues across our global facilities. You will be instrumental in shaping both current operations and new technologies by providing technical direction, innovation, and collaborative leadership.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as the principal technical authority on materials selection and corrosion mitigation for Chemours manufacturing, capital projects, and new technology initiatives.

  • Guide the selection and specification of high-performance alloys, with deep expertise in corrosion mechanisms and material-chemistry interactions.

  • Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating across engineering, R&D, production, and executive leadership to resolve critical corrosion challenges.

  • Design and oversee advanced laboratory and field corrosion testing programs using both standardized (ASTM and others) and custom methodologies.

  • Direct root cause failure analyses of critical equipment to improve reliability and safety in corrosive environments.

  • Drive strategic corrosion management programs for existing operations and new process introductions.

  • Provide training and technical leadership to laboratory technologists, engineers, and materials staff; manage and improve the Corporate Corrosion Database.

  • Represent Chemours externally with industry forums, technical societies, and partner organizations.

  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally to plant sites and fabrication shops.

The following Is required for this role:

  • MS or PhD in Chemistry, Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering.

  • Minimum 10 years' progressive experience in corrosion engineering within chemical or similar process industries.

  • Expertise in corrosion testing, material selection, metallurgy, and high-performance alloys (including stainless steels, reactive metals, and nickel-based alloys).

  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and communication skills, with the ability to guide and mentor teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.

The following Is preferred for this role:

  • 15+ years of direct corrosion engineering experience and program leadership.

  • Recognized expertise in specifying and implementing corrosion-resistant materials for process equipment in severe chemical environments.

  • Significant experience with field corrosion tests and monitoring programs.

  • Strong foundation in chemical processes-particularly for refrigerant and polymer manufacturing.

  • Hands-on knowledge of NDT, welding, fabrication, and failure analysis methodologies.

  • Hands-on or practical experience with identifying/mitigating corrosion damage mechanisms.
