Position :  Solutions Architect - High Performance Computing (#2609)
Duration: 8 months
Location: San Diego, California 92121

PREREQUISITES

  • BS in relevant field of Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS Engineering, preferred or equivalent Technical Institute training that includes relevant training courses, certifications and 9+ years equivalent work-related experience is required.
  • IBM HPC & IBM Storage platform certification is a plus.
  • RedHat or CentOS Linux certifications is required
  • Virtualization and or Cloud Certifications are desired
  • CCNA or higher Certification is required
  • ITIL 3.0 Certifications and experience are desired
  • Experience designing/implementing IBM Server solution is must
  • Experience with working in controlled highly regulated environment with standard change control management processes is a must
  • Pharmaceutical background and understanding of the CFR Part 11 and Sarbanes-Oxley regulatory requirements and experience with processes and procedures to apply and administer these and other necessary regulatory requirements in an operational environment is desire.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • 9+ years, IT Experience in Corporate Enterprise Industry or equivalent is a must
  • 7+ years' experience in the design and implementation of complex IT systems
  • 5-7 years' experience with high performance computing, Bioinformatics Engineer, and Genomics in R&D/R&ED Information Technology
  • 5-7 years Linux experience is required (RedHat & CentOS preferred)
  • 5-7 years experience with the IBM xSeries, NeXtScale servers and IBM Storage portfolio is a must
  • 3-5 years Ethernet and Infiniband Network LAN and WAN, experience is required
  • 3-5 years IBM's Global Parallel File System (GPFS) administrative experience is a must
  • Excellent experience and working knowledge of schedulers and distributed/parallel file systems is a must
  • Deep understanding of HPC software/hardware interface, LINUX, IO storage and interconnect systems, embedded systems design, device drivers, testing and implementation on x86 platforms GPU-HPC systems,
  • Strong background and high level of experience in software development and infrastructure solutions for effective utilization of large-scale genomic data. Strong understanding of challenges and solutions related to terabyte scale data is a plus.
  • High level of experience in genomics-related software building processes and infrastructure development and deployment is a plus
  • Programming skills in languages such as PERL, SQL, C/C#, .Net, Java etc.
  • Good understanding of commercial and open source sequence analysis tools, techniques and libraries.
  • Work experience in any segment of Biotechnology or Biosciences, including Bio-Pharma/Human Health,
  • Experience in developing and configuring systems and robust pipelines that support processing, storage, analysis, exploration, and discovery with data
  • High Performance Applications: Climate, Physics, Chemistry, Molecular Dynamics, GPU programming, OpenGL, visualization tools
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working across multiple business units to achieve results
  • Action oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Deploying cloud-based HPC solutions is Proffered
  • Understanding of the cloud computing delivery model as it relates to HPC
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services is a plus

Description:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to design, implement, manage and support, complex Life-Science IT infrastructure solutions with specific emphasis on High Performance Computing systems. The Senior Specialist II-Architecture should have the ability to work individually or as part of a team, on research, architecture, design and deployment of qualify hardware and software infrastructure solutions base, on business requirements & best practices in the R&D-R&ED Pharmaceutical industry.
Responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Work with Life/Science R&D-R&ED Technical Application owners and Infrastructure technical leads to architect, configured/implement HPC & Parallel File System solutions, base on business requirements and design the automation for its delivery in an stable, secure, and efficient manner.
  2. Design and implement process improvements as pertain to HPC infrastructure in order to be more responsive and proactive to the business needs & Design flexible solutions that optimize application runs.
  3. Performance analysis and optimization, design systems monitoring, support problem resolution, upgrade planning and execution, as well as process creation and documentation in accordance with Pharma R&D-R&ED and regulatory compliance guidance.
  4. Develop HPC roadmap base on strategies for growth.
  5. Manage HPC implementations, performance analysis and optimization of all its components, good problem resolution, upgrade planning and execution, and process creation and documentation in accordance with Pharma and regulatory compliance guidance.
  6. Acts as liaison to IT and business to gather infrastructure requirements for technology solutions.
  7. Performs evaluation of HPC components including but not limited, to OS, Storage, Servers, GPFS , Schedulers, Virtualization, and other shared Infrastructure technology alternatives and their respective risks assessment/costs.
  8. Acts as a self-directed and self-motivated facilitator to lead peers through effort, example, and collaboration and works closely with the business partners and IT to develop cost effective, operationally supportable solutions that meet complex requirements.
  9. Participates and coordinates cross-technology discussions to determine long term strategy for HPC-GPFS and related technologies.
  10. Implement process improvements as pertain to HPC infrastructure in order to be more responsive to the needs of the business.
  11. Follow standard operating procedures while maintaining validated/qualified systems.
  12. Serve as first level of support for problems that cannot be resolved by level zero engineers.
  13. Provide timely status updates to IT management
