A HEOR internship is a temporary position designed to give students or recent graduates practical experience in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR). Interns support research projects that evaluate the economic value and patient outcomes of healthcare treatments, drugs, or interventions. These internships typically involve data analysis, literature reviews, and helping prepare reports or presentations for stakeholders. The goal is to gain real-world experience in applying economic and outcomes research methods within the healthcare industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a HEOR intern?

To thrive as a HEOR Intern, you need a background in health economics, public health, or a related field, with strong analytical and research skills. Familiarity with statistical software such as SAS, R, or Stata, and experience in literature reviews and data analysis are typically required. Effective communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively are crucial soft skills. These competencies are essential for producing high-quality research that informs healthcare decision-making and supports evidence-based policy.

What are some common challenges faced during a HEOR internship and how can they be addressed?

During a HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) internship, interns often encounter challenges such as interpreting complex clinical data, adapting to rapidly changing project priorities, and effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
