Is Heor a good career?

Heor consulting involves analyzing healthcare economic outcomes and often requires strong analytical skills and knowledge of health data. It can be a rewarding career for those interested in healthcare policy, data analysis, and evidence-based decision making, with opportunities for growth in healthcare organizations and consulting firms.

What is the highest paying job in healthcare management?

The highest paying roles in healthcare management include Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of healthcare organizations and hospital administrators, with salaries often exceeding $150,000 annually. These positions require extensive experience, strong leadership skills, and often advanced degrees such as an MBA or healthcare administration certification.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Heor Consultant position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) Consultant, you need expertise in health economics, outcomes research methodologies, epidemiology, and data analysis, typically backed by a relevant advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MSc, PhD, PharmD). Proficiency in statistical software such as SAS, R, or Stata and familiarity with health databases, alongside certifications like ISPOR membership, are highly valuable. Strong communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills enable effective delivery of insights and results. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering robust, data-driven recommendations that inform healthcare decision-making and strategy.

What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

Heor Consultants, like many roles in human resources and organizational development, may see reduced demand for traditional administrative and manual tasks as automation and AI tools become more advanced. Jobs heavily reliant on routine data entry, basic screening, or manual record-keeping are likely to decline, while roles requiring strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and specialized certifications will remain essential.

What is a HEOR Consultant job?

A HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) Consultant evaluates the economic impact, clinical outcomes, and patient-reported benefits of healthcare treatments. They use data analysis, modeling, and research to support pricing, market access, and reimbursement strategies. Their insights help pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare companies demonstrate the value of their products to regulators, payers, and policymakers.

Is 30 too old to get into consulting?

Heor consultants, like many consulting roles, value experience and skills over age, and individuals often transition into consulting later in their careers. Age 30 is generally not considered too old, especially if you have relevant expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a solid educational background. Many firms appreciate diverse experiences and perspectives brought by professionals at different career stages.

What are some typical projects or responsibilities that a HEOR Consultant handles on a daily basis?

As a HEOR Consultant, you may work on projects such as designing and conducting health economic models, performing literature reviews, managing real-world evidence studies, and crafting dossiers or reports for regulatory submissions. Daily tasks often include data analysis, preparing presentations for clients, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and staying up to date with the latest industry guidelines and payer requirements. This role often involves close interaction with pharmaceutical, biotech, or device company clients, requiring an ability to balance technical accuracy with strategic communication. The work environment is typically fast-paced, project-driven, and may include both independent analysis and teamwork. These experiences provide ample opportunities to develop expertise and advance to senior consultant or leadership positions.

Senior Statistical Programmer - HEOR Consulting

AIP Connect

New York, NY

Full-time

Job description

Our client, an innovative, client-focused boutique HEOR consulting firm is growing! We're looking for a Senior Biostatistician to join their team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics or biostatistics and proficiency in statistical programming using SAS and/or R.

In this role, you will utilize real-world data to conduct a range of health care economic, clinical effectiveness, and burden of illness analyses to support pharmaceutical products throughout their life cycles across a range of disease areas.

This opportunity is for you if you're looking for an environment where you can play a big role in study design and analytics, and where you will have the opportunity to analyze and explore different types and structures of data. While this is a boutique organization, it has received significant industry recognition, and has established a growing list of clients. Therefore, you may face dynamic challenges that will require you to have an out of the box, solutions driven approach.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design and analysis of studies that inform healthcare decision-making and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for their clients. Additionally, this role is for you if you're excited about opportunities to build new data platforms.
You can expect to specifically focus on:
  • Heavy Data Manipulation: You'll be the one building analytical datasets from the ground up. This means getting into the weeds with patient selection, programming attrition counts, and working extensively with ICD-10, NDC, and CPT codes.
  • The Analyses: A significant portion of the work involves Treatment Pattern Analysis, Clinical Outcomes, and Healthcare Resource Utilization (HCRU) and Cost analysis.
  • Study Architecture: You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design HEOR studies, write the Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), and make sure the methodology is airtight.
  • Technical Mentorship: Act as a lead resource for junior staff, providing hands-on guidance on statistical methods and conducting code reviews to ensure programming best practices in SAS and R.
  • Strategic Storytelling: You'll translate complex statistical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for pharmaceutical leaders. It's about telling the story of the data, not just handing over a spreadsheet.
What You Bring To The Table
We are looking for a unique blend of technical mastery and an entrepreneurial spirit. Because of the fast-paced nature of the work, previous experience in an HEOR consulting firm is a requirement.
  • Consulting Background: You must come from an HEOR consulting firm. That fast-paced, solutions-driven mindset is non-negotiable here.
  • US Database Experience: You need to be deeply familiar with US administrative claims and EMR/EHR data.
  • Technical Stack: Expert-level proficiency in SAS and/or R is essential. If you're familiar with Python or Stata, that's a bonus.
  • The Credentials: A Master's or PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in HEOR consulting.
  • Leadership & Rigor: You have a meticulous eye for code auditing and a natural ability to mentor junior staff.
Salary range for this role is $110 - 130K.
