Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Compliance & Privacy leads the day-to-day design, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of Hendrick Healthโ€™s Compliance, Privacy, and Integrity Program under the direction of the Vice President of Compliance. The Director is accountable for the annual compliance risk assessment and work plan; investigation and hotline oversight; auditing and monitoring; corrective action governance; regulatory response coordination; policy and education strategy; program reporting; and the quality, development, and performance of department staff. The role serves as an operational compliance advisor and liaison to Legal, Human Resources, Finance, Quality, Risk, Information Technology, clinical and operational leadership, physicians, and governance committees.

Scope and Decision Authority

  • Enterprise scope across hospitals, clinics, ambulatory, post-acute, home-based, employed provider, and other Hendrick Health operations.
  • Accountable for prioritizing department resources, approving work products, assigning and escalating matters, and ensuring timely resolution of compliance risks within delegated authority.
  • Leads high-risk, complex, systemic, or regulatory investigations and approves standard investigation methodologies and documentation expectations.
  • Coordinates final privacy breach determinations, external notifications, legal interpretations, and regulatory submissions with the designated Privacy Officer, Legal, and leadership as required by organizational policy.
  • Supervises department staff and establishes workload, quality, timeliness, development, and performance expectations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

    • Bachelorโ€™s degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, law, public administration, accounting, or a related field required.
    • Masterโ€™s degree or Juris Doctor preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

    • Seven or more years of progressive healthcare compliance, privacy, audit, regulatory, legal, risk, quality, or healthcare operations experience.
    • Three or more years of formal leadership experience with responsibility for staff, major programs, or complex cross-functional initiatives.
    • Demonstrated experience leading investigations, regulatory responses, audits or monitoring, corrective actions, and executive reporting.
    • Clinical or healthcare operational experience strongly preferred but not required when equivalent healthcare compliance expertise is demonstrated.

Required Licenses/Certifications

    • Certified Healthcare Compliance (CHC) required
    • Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), or comparable certification preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    • Advanced knowledge of healthcare compliance program principles, investigations, privacy, auditing and monitoring, corrective action, and regulatory response processes.
    • Excellent judgment, credibility, integrity, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
    • Strong leadership, coaching, delegation, conflict-resolution, and performance-management skills.
    • Ability to interpret complex requirements, distinguish legal questions from compliance issues, and communicate practical operational guidance.
    • Strong analytical, writing, presentation, and executive communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple complex matters, competing deadlines, and enterprise stakeholders with minimal supervision.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and working knowledge of compliance systems, dashboards, and data-driven program management.
