Job description

Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and daily support to adults with developmental disabilities and complex behavioral and/or medical needs in a Level 7 Adult Residential Facility (ARF).

This role is responsible for delivering compassionate, person-centered care while supporting residents in achieving their individualized goals in a safe, structured, and therapeutic home environment. The DSP works closely with the Lead Staff, Administrator, Assistant Administrator, and clinical team to ensure high-quality services and compliance with all applicable regulations, including California DDS, Title 17, and Title 22 licensing requirements.


Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Care & Resident Support
  • Provide hands-on support with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance
  • Support residents in daily routines, community integration, and skill-building activities
  • Implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and behavior support plans as directed
  • Provide supervision and support in a structured residential setting
  • Promote independence, dignity, and person-centered care
Behavioral Support
  • Support individuals with behavioral challenges using approved de-escalation and redirection techniques
  • Implement behavior intervention strategies as trained and directed by the clinical team
  • Observe, document, and report behaviors, triggers, and interventions
  • Maintain a calm, therapeutic environment to help prevent escalation
Health & Safety
  • Monitor residents’ physical, emotional, and behavioral well-being
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment
  • Follow medication support procedures and health protocols as assigned
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and crisis situations
  • Follow infection control, safety, and emergency procedures at all times
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete daily progress notes, data collection, and incident reports accurately and timely
  • Ensure documentation meets DDS and Community Care Licensing standards
  • Report concerns, incidents, and resident updates to supervisory staff promptly
  • Follow all company policies, Title 17, and Title 22 regulations
Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Staff, supervisors, clinicians, and fellow DSP team members
  • Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and in-service education
  • Support smooth shift transitions through effective communication
QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral health, or residential care preferred
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass background clearance requirements
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts if needed
Preferred
  • Previous experience in ARF, ICF, SLS, ILS, or behavioral health settings
  • Experience working with individuals with complex behavioral needs
  • CPI, Pro-ACT, or crisis intervention training preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist residents throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and support residents as needed
  • Ability to safely respond during behavioral crises or emergency situations
