Job description

ABOUT VERITION
Verition Fund Management is a global multi-strategy hedge fund with expertise across equity, fixed income, and derivatives markets. Our US offices sit at the center of our operations, supporting a broad range of investment strategies across global markets.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Verition is seeking a motivated Business Analyst - Operations & AI to join its Operations & AI team. This is a hands-on role for someone who has used tools like Claude and ChatGPT to get real work done and wants to bring that experience into a fast-paced hedge fund environment. Working directly with Operations, Trade Support, and Technology stakeholders, this person will identify manual processes that can be automated or accelerated with AI, then build, pilot, and maintain the solutions. It's an opportunity to implement practical AI applications that increase productivity and reduce operational risk across the trade lifecycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with Operations, Trade Support, and Technology stakeholders to map existing workflows and identify opportunities for AI-driven automation.
  • Design, build, and maintain lightweight automations and scripts (Python, SQL) connecting AI tools to internal data and systems.
  • Prototype and pilot new AI-assisted processes, then document and hand off successful ones for broader adoption.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries to pull, clean, and validate data supporting AI implementations.
  • Support prompt design, testing, and iteration to improve output quality and reliability.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot existing AI-powered tools and workflows, escalating issues as needed.
  • Analyze operational workflows across the trade lifecycle, reconciliations, settlements, confirmations, corporate actions, and reporting.
  • Gather business requirements from Operations and translate them into technical solutions, partnering with Technology on implementation.
  • Assist with testing, UAT, and rollout of new operational tools.
  • Measure the impact of AI implementations against operational KPIs, identify risks introduced by automation, and recommend controls.
  • Track implementation progress and communicate status across Operations, Technology, and business stakeholders.
  • Document processes, decisions, and playbooks so solutions are repeatable and maintainable.
  • Stay current on new AI capabilities and vendor releases relevant to operations use cases.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 1-5 years of experience in an operations role at a hedge fund, asset manager, or similar financial services firm.
  • Working proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Hands-on experience using Claude and/or ChatGPT for real work - prompt design, workflow automation, or similar (not just casual use).
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with sensitive financial/operational data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-starter mindset, comfortable identifying problems and proposing solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, technical, or business-related field preferred but not required.
  • Preferred: exposure to APIs, automation frameworks, or scripting for data pipelines.
  • Preferred: familiarity with fund operations processes (reconciliation, trade support, reporting).
  • Preferred: experience using modern LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to improve business workflows.
