At AES we are looking for a Material Handling Operator

Role description:

Under the direction of the Material Handling Team Leader, the Material Handling Operator will perform the duties and responsibilities that ensure the availability of coal and limestone for the operation of the power generation facility and for the storage and subsequent removal of the ash generated at the facility business goals.

Responsabilities:

  • Operates process system in a correct, efficient and safe manner. This includes operating pumps, motors, and valves.

  • Perform inspections to the instrument indications, conveyors, valves, pumps, tanks, and the associate equipment and the heavy equipment machinery.

  • Perform operation and inspections.

  • Operate off road type of mobile heavy equipment used for moving and hauling earth, coal, limestone and coal combustion products.

  • Prepare and execute Lock Out/Tag Out of area systems and equipment, and restore such systems and equipment to operation after maintenance

  • Assist maintenance and contractor personnel preparing area work clearance permits.

  • Conduct air tests to prepare confined space entry and hot work permits.

  • Perform as a Confined Space Monitor, if needed by maintenance actions.

  • Perform area safety inspections and tests on such equipment as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, emergency lighting, safety showers and eyewashes, and ladders.

  • Inform Control Room Operator, Maintenance Department, and Area Leader of status of area operating equipment, and problems as discovered.

  • Provide shift relief support when necessary, for vacations and sick leave.

  • Operate mobile lifting equipment to support operations and/or maintenance.

  • Experience in PLC and/or DCS.

  • Periodically make rounds to ensure proper operation of equipment and to document collected data. This includes having to climb steps and/or ladders that are inside and outside of buildings.

  • Participate in the training and development program.

  • Perform housekeeping duties on a regular basis which includes but is not limited to sweeping, shoveling, lifting, and washing down of components with water and cleaning solution.

  • Perform Dock Operations, loading and unloading of vessels.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor degree in a technical, engineering field or equivalent experience required.

  • 2 years of experience with industrial background.

  • Effective organizational skills with commitment to deadlines.

  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to quickly adapt to changing business needs.

  • Able to support 24 x 7 operations.

  • Experience in SAP preferred.
