About the Role:

As a Systems Administrator, you’ll help keep the airport’s technology operations cleared for takeoff and running smoothly from gate to gate. In this role, you’ll serve as a critical member of the IT team, supporting the systems and infrastructure that power daily airport operations behind the scenes. From Microsoft 365 and virtualization environments to access control, CCTV, parking management, and other essential business platforms, you’ll help ensure our technology ecosystem stays secure, reliable, and ready for every arrival and departure.

This position goes beyond day-to-day support — you’ll help chart the course for technology improvements across the Authority. You’ll lead and contribute to system upgrades, automation initiatives, lifecycle management efforts, and strategic technology projects designed to improve operational efficiency and enhance the user experience for both employees and travelers.

Like an air traffic controller for enterprise systems, you’ll troubleshoot issues, provide technical guidance, develop documentation and training resources, and support departments across the organization with professionalism and responsiveness. You’ll also play an important role in IT security, disaster recovery planning, change management, and responding to critical operational issues when needed.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with calm problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate multiple priorities in a fast-paced airport environment. Compensation:

  • Maximum – Based on experience
  • Minimum - $86,438.14

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensures systems are functioning properly to support required daily airport operations. Monitors systems, email, and the IT ticketing system.
  • Administers and supports enterprise applications, including Microsoft 365, Access Control, CCTV , Parking Management, and other operational platforms and business systems.
  • Designs, develops, builds, manages, trains, documents, and supports new and existing systems
  • Maintains documentation, system procedures, and user support resources. Provides project management, recommends new technologies, and addresses technology life cycles.
  • Provides Technology consultations to management and other RDU departments.
  • Designs and implements automation via multiple methods to improve efficiency and business operations.

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or relevant applicable experience

Experience:

  • 0 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree in information systems or computer science, or 4 years of experience in Microsoft O365 administration, or related experience without a bachelor's degree.

Preferred:

  • 3 years of Information Systems (IT) related experience

Licenses or Certifications:

Preferred:

  • O365, Azure, and Network Certifications

Emergency/Weather Status
This position is considered Essential. This means this department and role are essential to operations and required to be on-site when there is an airport incident (emergency/weather).

Typical Work Hours:

  • 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Rotating On call
