Job description

The opportunity
This summer, you'll join one of Unity's most consequential teams - Vector AI - as a Research Science Intern. This organization drives how ads are delivered, measured, and optimized across Unity's advertising platform.

You'll work alongside engineers, scientists, and product managers on high-impact problems at the intersection of machine learning, optimization, and causal inference - in large-scale, real-world systems where your research will have direct influence on campaign performance and advertiser outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  • Design and run experiments to improve ad performance, efficiency, and measurement quality.
  • Develop scalable models and algorithms targeting bidding strategy, auction dynamics, and user value estimation.
  • Partner with engineering to bring research ideas into production systems.
  • Analyze large datasets using advanced statistical and machine learning methods.
  • Communicate findings clearly to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • Academic background in machine learning, optimization, statistics, or econometrics.
  • Fluency working with large datasets using tools such as Python, R, SQL, or Spark.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - able to make complex ideas accessible.
  • A track record of rigorous, high-quality research.

You might also have

  • Experience or coursework in advertising, marketplaces, or recommendation systems.
  • Familiarity with causal inference methods such as A/B testing or uplift modeling.
  • Genuine curiosity about applied research and the drive to see ideas through to impact.
