About the Network Administrator position

We are looking for a talented network administrator to join our team in Suitland, MD. You will provide network administration support for NOAA's satellite operations missions. You will support mission operations, routine maintenance, troubleshooting and anomaly detection/resolution, refresh and modernization planning, network integrations, and security hardening. As a Network Administrator, you will be expected to perform network infrastructure installations and upgrades, monitor the health and performance of a diverse network environment, develop standard operating procedures, and plan and execute network infrastructure improvements.

We expect you to have a passion for building and maintaining highly available networks. You should have a desire to work with satellite data and products for the public and government. Besides, you should be able to perform well working in a team, along with system administrators, engineers and scientists.

This position is located at a government facility in Suitland, MD. The position is eligible for a flexible work arrangement.

Network Administrator responsibilities are:
  • Operate and maintain network infrastructure
  • Monitor and report on device health, utilization, uptime, usage, security issues, and anomalies
  • Identify, design, plan, and implement network upgrades and configuration changes to support architectural improvements, address new requirements, and updates to address security vulnerabilities and obsolescence
  • Detect, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve operational problems within the LAN/WAN infrastructure
  • Create and maintain documents including Standard Operating Procedures
  • Develop and refine network topology diagrams
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support when required
  • Support security testing, hardening, and assessments to meet strict compliance and operational security requirements
Network Administrator requirements are:
  • 3+ years of network administration or engineering experience
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network equipment including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Experience with designing and maintaining highly available networks including fault-tolerance, redundancy, failover, and continuity of operations
  • Experience configuring and maintaining next-generation firewalls (NGFW), security zones, and defense-in-depth
  • Knowledge of routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
  • Experience with issue tracking and configuration management systems and processes
  • Understanding of security best practices
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related area
  • Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and able to pass a full background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility
Desired Qualifications are:
  • Experience with Federal government environments and concepts including NIST Risk Management Framework, NIST SP 800-53 security controls, and DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • Experience with a variety of network solution vendors including Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, and others
  • Experience with Solarwinds Orion and similar network monitoring tools
  • Industry certifications such as Cisco certifications, Network+, Security+, and others
