Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Managing Scientist in our Chemical Regulations & Food Safety Practice to be based in our Washington, DC office. In this role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of toxicologists, exposure scientists, health risk assessors, food scientists, nutrition scientists, and regulatory consultants providing safety reviews, conducting health risk assessments, and project management to support clients in the food and ingredient industries. This person will have opportunities to collaborate with other Exponent practice areas.

You will be responsible for
  • Managing and organizing pre-market approval projects, such as GRAS, FAP/CAP, NDIN, and FCNs
  • Providing strategic regulatory consulting related to food additives/ingredients, novel foods, botanical ingredients, and dietary supplements
  • Interacting with clients and FDA regulators
  • Preparing complex technical reports
  • Project management and project budget oversight
  • Mentoring and developing Scientist and Senior Scientist career goals and working collaboratively across the various Exponent practices
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in biochemistry, biological sciences, nutrition, toxicology, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in food regulatory consulting
  • Strong background in Human Health Risk Assessment
  • Sound scientific principles, flexibility, and willingness to learn
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, effective with time management, and capable of working independently and cooperatively in diverse teams
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment
  • Willingness to learn and be creative
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States.  No immigration sponsorship or processing required.

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
