Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Director of HIM to join our team!
SUMMARY: The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for overseeing the organization, security, and accessibility of patient health records. The Director ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS, CHIQ) and collaborates with clinical, administrative, and IT teams to support efficient healthcare delivery. This position manages efforts to maintain data integrity, optimize revenue cycle management, and enhance patient care by ensuring accurate documentation and robust health information reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the HIM department, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in health record management for all locations.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate HIM staff, including medical coders, medical record technicians etc.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that align with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership, physicians, nursing, IT, and finance to improve documentation and record-keeping processes.
  • Ensure HIM practices comply with HIPAA, CMS, CHIQ and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct internal audits to verify the accuracy, security, and completeness of patient records.
  • Oversee the release of patient information, ensuring adherence to privacy regulations.
  • Manage medical record retention, storage, and destruction policies per legal requirements.
  • Oversee and optimize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, ensuring efficient data capture, storage, and security.
  • Work closely with IT teams to maintain cybersecurity measures and prevent data breaches.
  • Implement system upgrades and new technologies to enhance HIM processes and efficiency.
  • Generate and analyze reports related to patient outcomes, and compliance metrics for all locations.
  • Provide insights for hospital administration to support decision-making and operational improvements.
  • Support research and quality improvement initiatives through health data analysis.
