Health Informatics Manager information

Is health informatics a stable career?

Health informatics managers typically work in a growing field as healthcare organizations increasingly adopt electronic health records and data management systems. The demand for professionals with skills in health IT, data analysis, and healthcare regulations supports job stability and opportunities for advancement.

What is a health informatics manager?

A Health Informatics Manager is a professional who oversees the development, implementation, and management of information systems in healthcare settings. They ensure that electronic health records and other medical data are efficiently collected, stored, and analyzed to support patient care and organizational goals. Health Informatics Managers work closely with IT teams, healthcare providers, and administrators to ensure compliance with regulations and data security standards. Their role is critical in improving healthcare delivery through technology and data-driven decision making.

What are some common challenges faced by health informatics managers when implementing new healthcare technology systems?

Health Informatics Managers often encounter challenges such as resistance to change from clinical staff, ensuring data privacy and security, and integrating new systems with existing electronic health records. Addressing these issues typically requires clear communication, comprehensive training programs, and close collaboration with IT, clinical, and administrative teams. Successful managers stay adaptable and proactive, anticipating workflow disruptions and developing strategies to minimize impact on patient care.

What does a health informatics manager do?

A health informatics manager oversees the implementation and management of healthcare information systems, ensuring data accuracy, security, and compliance with regulations. They coordinate between clinical staff and IT teams, analyze health data to improve patient care, and often require knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems and relevant certifications. Their role involves strategic planning, system optimization, and supporting healthcare technology integration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a health informatics manager?

To thrive as a Health Informatics Manager, you need expertise in health information management, data analysis, and healthcare regulations, usually supported by a degree in health informatics or related fields. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, data analytics tools, and certifications such as RHIA or CAHIMS is commonly required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you guide teams and bridge the gap between clinical and IT staff. These competencies are crucial for ensuring effective data management, regulatory compliance, and improved patient outcomes in healthcare organizations.

  • Communicate effectively with the product, engineering, and clinical teams.

  • Coordinate with U.S.-based sales, operations, and customer success teams to align on customer needs and priorities.

  • Represent Dozee professionally at client sites, trade events, and healthcare settings.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Health Informatics, etc.).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical clinical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and respond with urgency when needed.

  • Comfortable with a flexible, non-traditional work schedule including occasional early morning or late evening availability for calls with India.

  • Reliable access to transportation; ability to travel to customer and clinical sites across the Houston area.

  • Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Google Workspace, video conferencing).

Preferred

  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinical, medtech, or healthcare technology environment.

  • Familiarity with patient monitoring systems, wearables, or nursing home clinical workflows.

  • Prior experience in a field application, clinical specialist, or technical support role.

  • Exposure to clinical research protocols, IRB processes, or GCP guidelines.
