Job Description

Summary:

The System Support Specialist 1 (SSS1) is an entry-level service engineering professional who serves as a key technical contributor within Global Technical Services for the BD COR System. In this role, the SSS1 applies systems-thinking principles to support fielded diagnostic systems, ensuring product reliability, serviceability, and a high-quality customer experience throughout the product lifecycle.

The SSS1 works under general direction and collaborates closely with Field Service, Engineering subject matter experts (SMEs), Quality, Manufacturing and R&D partners to investigate issues, analyze performance data and support sustaining and continuous improvement initiatives. While not an R&D role, the SSS1 leverages foundational engineering concepts to translate real-world field performance into actionable service solutions and feedback for product improvement.This position offers broad exposure to complex electro-mechanical and software-driven diagnostic systems, as well as structured methodologies for troubleshooting and performance monitoring in a regulated environment.

The successful SSS1 willdemonstratea strong commitment to thoroughness and attention to detail when investigating technical issues, ensuring that root causes are fully understood, clearly documented, and effectively addressed. The SSS1 will bring a proactive mindset,identifyingpotential system, service, or process risks early, andleveragestrong problem-solving skills to guideand influence others. This includes applying clear logic, data-driven insights, and sound technical judgment to support decisions. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates problems of moderate complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems under general direction.

  • Drives root cause investigations, both remote and on-site, to resolve field issues, collaborating across Service, Quality and R&D.

  • Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups, such as systems engineering, software engineering, qualityengineeringand operations.

  • Collects,analyzesand interprets service, producthealthand field performance data toidentifytrends, supportcorrectiveand preventative actions, and propose operational and system improvements.

  • Develops,reviewsandmaintainsservice engineering documentation, including service procedures,checklistsand technical guides.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • Relevantinternship or thesis-based applications in fields such as Medical Technology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostic Instrument development or a combination of education andprofessionalexperience.

  • Experienceevaluatingtechnical problems using analytical and data-driven approaches.

  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, automation, and software-enabled instrumentation.

  • Experience or willingnessto work effectively as a technical contributor on cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work Onsite daily

PreferredEducation &Experience:

  • M.S. in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • Exposure to diagnostic instrumentation, preferablythat whichleveragesautomation technologies such as fluid handling, robotics, imaging systems, and spectral/fluorescent analysis.

  • Experience working in FDA and/or ISO regulated environments.

  • Experience supporting global or cross-regional teams.
