Job description
As a Coding Quality Specialist 3, you will work with highly specialized inpatient physician services across multiple medical and surgical specialties while collaborating with providers and operational teams to ensure coding excellence. This remote opportunity is ideal for coding professionals who enjoy challenging cases, continuous learning, and working at the top of their profession.
The Role
In this highly specialized coding role, you will perform professional fee coding and quality review functions for complex inpatient services provided within an academic teaching hospital environment. You will leverage your deep knowledge of CPT, ICD coding, documentation standards, and compliance requirements to help ensure accurate code assignment and optimal revenue cycle performance.
A typical day may include:
- Reviewing and coding inpatient physician services including admissions, consultations, critical care services, and bedside procedures.
- Applying accurate CPT and ICD code selection while maintaining compliance with current coding guidelines and payer requirements.
- Identifying documentation opportunities and collaborating with providers to support coding accuracy and specificity.
- Supporting quality initiatives through coding audits, education, and coding compliance activities.
- Interpreting and applying guidelines related to:
- Modifiers
- NCCI edits
- Split/shared services
- Resident billing
- APP billing
- Diagnostic specificity requirements
- Maintaining consistent productivity and accuracy standards while managing complex inpatient encounters.
- Working with multidisciplinary physician groups across specialties such as Internal Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Hematology & Oncology, Infectious Disease, Rheumatology, and Pediatrics.
- Coding highly specialized inpatient encounters involving critical care and advanced academic medicine services.
Ideal candidates bring significant experience in a teaching hospital setting and may have exposure to specialty units such as:
- Cardiothoracic ICU
- Trauma ICU
- Surgical ICU
- Neurosurgical ICU
- Medical ICU
- Neonatal & Pediatric ICU
- Oncology and Transplant Programs
CPC certification and at least five years of inpatient Profee coding experience are strongly desired for success in this role.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: 5+ years of relevant coding experience required.
Licensure: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
The pay range for this role is $26.00 - $40.57 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
