Responsibilities


Licensed Practical Nurses assigned by Zuricare are responsible for the administration of all medications and treatments (except those specifically designated for an RN) during their shift, according to the established medical and nursing care plan. LPNs will work under the direction of the Head/RN Charge Nurse to provide optimum nursing care to all residents on a given unit.


Among other things, Licensed Practical Nurses assigned by Zuricare will do the following:


  • Receive report(s) the from previous shift, making sure that she/he/they has/have received all pertinent information on each applicable resident.
  • Continuously evaluate behavior, symptoms, reactions and progress of residents and discuss findings with the Nurse Manager/RN Charge Nurse.


  • Administer and document all medications according to established policies and procedures, physicians orders and Department of Health regulations.


  • Perform all treatments according to physicians specific orders and established policies and procedures.


  • Discuss the need to discontinue or change a medication or treatment with the Nurse Manager/RN Charge Nurse.


  • Order prescribed medications, notify the pharmacy of discontinued medications and ensure the accuracy of medications and dosages when received from the pharmacy.
