Job description

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Head of Digital Chief of Staff is responsible for serving as a strategic and operational partner to the Head of Digital, ensuring alignment between departmental programs and business strategy while proactively managing risk and organizational effectiveness. You will be responsible for connecting digital initiatives to enterprise strategic objectives, for identifying and mitigating risks before they materialize, and for ensuring the department operates with the rigor and accountability expected of a high-performing organization. This role will work closely with the Head of Digital and cross-functional leaders to assess program performance, represent leadership perspective in strategic discussions, challenge organizational assumptions, and oversee the execution of departmental priorities in alignment with RBC's governance frameworks and operational excellence standards.

What will you do?

  • Serve as Strategic Partner and Right Hand: Act as a trusted extension of the Head of Digital, representing their priorities, preparing them for key decisions, and ensuring alignment across the department's leadership team.
  • Connect Programs to Strategy: Maintain a clear view of how the department's programs and initiatives ladder up to broader business strategy, and flag where they've drifted or need to be reprioritized.
  • Manage Risk Proactively: Build visibility into risk across the department's portfolio of work, operational, delivery, and regulatory - and drive timely escalation and resolution before issues become surprises.
  • Run the Operating Rhythm: Own the cadence that keeps the department functioning: leadership meetings, planning cycles, reporting, and follow-through on decisions and commitments.
  • Prepare Executive-Ready Communication: Develop clear, concise materials, strategy narratives, business reviews, decision memos that help leadership and stakeholders understand where things stand and what's needed next.
  • Drive Accountability Without Direct Authority: Hold teams and partners across the department accountable to shared commitments, influencing through relationships and credibility rather than positional power.
  • Anticipate What's Needed Next: Stay ahead, identifying gaps, blind spots, or emerging issues before they're raised to the Head of Digital, and bringing solutions, not just problems.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Haves

  • 15+ years of experience in wealth management or financial services, with tangible experience in digital strategy, program management, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in a chief of staff, right-hand, or similar trusted-advisor capacity to a senior leader.
  • Strong track record managing risk and driving accountability across a complex portfolio of work.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion, comfortable operating with visibility into sensitive, high-stakes information.
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to build credibility and trust across business, technology, data, and operations.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in a matrixed, highly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with digital and AI initiatives specifically, enough to ask informed questions and evaluate whether programs are delivering real value.
  • Strong executive communication skills, comfortable distilling complexity into something a senior leader can act on quickly.
  • A bias for getting ahead of problems rather than reacting to them.

What's in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable
  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • Opportunities to do challenging work
  • Opportunities to build close relationships with clients

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $140,000 - $230,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan. RBC's compensation philosophy and principles recognize the importance of a highly qualified global workforce and plays a critical role in attracting, engaging and retaining talent that:

* Drives RBC's high-performance culture

* Enables collective achievement of our strategic goals

* Generates sustainable shareholder returns and above market shareholder value
