Overview:

The Institutional Services Risk Control Design Specialist will have a specific focus analyzing process and control design. The position is responsible for coordinating with our business partners across the segment with the objective of providing critical review and challenge on process design, facilitating process improvement, and ultimately supporting the establishment and maintenance of an effective and sustainable control environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive process and control improvement by providing timely and insightful feedback to business partners across the segment.

  • Review process maps, procedures, and control design language to inform timely and effective feedback on risk and potential process enhancements in support of achieving the Bank's risk management objectives and regulatory compliance.

  • Effectively identify and communicate applicable risks to our partners within the segment, reach consensus, and facilitate change.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage data and automation to strengthen processes and increase efficiency.

  • Maintain and develop a comprehensive understanding of Institutional Services product offerings, business processes, and relevant regulatory compliance criteria

  • Manage several workstreams concurrently, balance competing priorities, and provide effective updates as to status and next steps on a recurring basis.

  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Institutional Services Head of Control Design. The individual would support process and control design analysis by effectively coordinating with business partners, reviewing process documentation, performing walkthroughs, providing feedback, and ultimately enabling the establishment of effective control processes to address relevant risks.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:
N/A

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience in the banking industry.

  • Three years of experience in formulating, developing and working within cross-functional teams.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication, cross-functional collaboration and management skills.


  • Ability to communicate concepts/theories and develop alternative recommendations.


  • Ability to make effective presentations to all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to build consensus, and move projects forward despite roadblocks and competing functional priorities.

Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative/analytical discipline such as Finance, Accounting or Economics or Master's degree. Public accounting experience on audits of banking industry SEC registrants is preferred.
