Scranton Motors is seeking an experienced, driven, and results-oriented General Sales Manager (GSM) to lead our sales operations in Vernon, Connecticut.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record leading successful automotive sales teams, with General Motors dealership experience strongly preferred.

 About the Opportunity

The General Sales Manager will oversee all front-end dealership operations, including New Vehicle Sales, Used Vehicle Sales, and Finance & Insurance (F&I), while leading a team of approximately 8-10 Sales Consultants and 1 Finance Manager.

This leader will be responsible for driving sales performance, profitability, customer satisfaction, team development, inventory management, and overall dealership growth.

We are seeking a hands-on leader who is process-driven, highly accountable, and committed to developing people while delivering exceptional results.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all front-end dealership operations including New, Used, and F&I

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and retain top-performing sales professionals

  • Develop and execute strategies to increase sales volume, gross profit, and market share

  • Drive dealership performance through daily accountability and KPI management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 8-10 Sales Consultants and 1 Finance Manager

  • Conduct sales meetings, performance reviews, and ongoing training initiatives

  • Review and approve all deals, trade appraisals, and sales incentives

  • Manage inventory acquisition, pricing strategy, aging inventory, and merchandising standards

  • Monitor CRM activity and ensure proper customer follow-up processes are executed consistently

  • Partner with executive leadership to forecast sales performance and develop growth strategies

  • Ensure high CSI scores and exceptional customer experiences

  • Address and resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently

  • Analyze local market trends, inventory needs, and sales opportunities

  • Maintain compliance with all dealership, manufacturer, and regulatory requirements

  • Foster a positive, high-performance culture built on teamwork, integrity, and accountability

 QualificationsRequired
  • Minimum 5 years of Automotive Sales Management experience

  • Proven success leading high-performing automotive sales teams

  • Experience hiring, training, coaching, and developing sales personnel

  • Strong understanding of dealership operations, forecasting, reporting, and profitability management

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

  • Professional appearance and leadership presence

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred
  • General Motors dealership experience strongly preferred

  • Experience with Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Buick, or other GM franchise operations

  • Experience utilizing GM GlobalConnect

  • Strong understanding of GM sales processes, incentive programs, inventory management, and CSI expectations

  • Experience with:

    • Reynolds & Reynolds DMS

    • VinSolutions CRM

    • vAuto Inventory Management

  • Cadillac or luxury franchise leadership experience highly desirable

  • Candidates from other successful franchise dealerships with exceptional performance records will also be considered
