What is a day in the life of a Head of Commercial Finance
  • Partner with executive, commercial, and sales leadership to provide guidance on pricing, monetization, channel strategy, and contract reviews, while evaluating commercial risks and opportunities to drive growth and profitability
  • Lead the Pricing team, including financial review of new deals, expansions, and renegotiations; own, refine and improve Pattern's financial deal model; evaluate new products and business models; and pricing related to promotional activities
  • Lead Commercial Finance's Annual Operating Plan and forecasts, scenario modelling, and month end close activities
  • Develop and mentor the Commercial Finance team, fostering a data-driven and collaborative environment
What will I need to thrive in this role?
  • 10-15+ years of progressive finance experience, including 5+ years in a commercial finance leadership role, preferably within fast-paced, omnichannel retail or e-commerce environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred

First 30 Days:

  • Personally review and assess deal models and P&L inputs alongside the team to master Pattern's marketplace nuances.
  • Work directly with sales and commercial leads to uncover friction points in pricing and contract workflows.
  • Conduct 1:1s to learn the business mechanics from the ground up and build credibility with key stakeholders.
By 60 Days:
  • Assume full responsibility for critical financial deal models, applying your own rigorous analysis to evaluate risks.
  • Translate complex performance data into simplified recommendations for high-stakes commercial strategy.
  • Implement streamlined reporting and forecasting workflows based on your 30-day observations.

At 90 Days:

  • Serve as the primary strategic thought partner for Finance Leadership and the Chief Commercial Officer while maintaining active, "boots on the ground" operational involvement.
  • Drive the adoption of AI-driven processes to automate tasks, mentoring the team on hands-on technology implementation.
  • Lead and Support evaluation and operationalization of new products and their monetization models
What is the team like?
  • You will work with the other Commercial Finance team members who will report directly to you and be supervised by the VP of Finance. You will also be mentored by the Chief Financial Officer and meet with them periodically to discuss your performance. This team is data driven and results oriented. You will collaborate regularly with members of your team to implement actionable solutions. Ideas and input are encouraged from all members.
