Job description

Position: Head of Procurement
Department: Procurement
Reports To: COO
Office Location: Scottsdale, AZ (Full Time, On-Site)
Supervise: Team of Two
Job Summary:
True Spec Golf, the global leader in custom club fitting and club building, is looking to add a Head of Procurement to its growing headquarters team. Founded in 2014, True Spec Golf is headquartered in Scottsdale and now has over 40 locations worldwide.
TSG is seeking an experienced procurement professional to own the full purchasing function - from supplier negotiations and weekly buying to category strategy and cash flow management. This is a hands-on individual contributor role that also operates at a strategic level. The ideal candidate is analytically sharp, commercially credible with OEM vendor partners, and holds themselves accountable to the inventory metrics that drive company profitability. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Weekly Purchasing - Execute the weekly buying cycle, translating COGS burn rate, current inventory position, and monthly turn targets into specific purchase orders across heads, shafts, grips, and accessories
  • Inventory Management - Monitor inventory position daily; own DOH and turn performance against TSG's 8x annual goal; diagnose variance and adjust buying behavior in real time
  • Cash Flow - Build and maintain cash flow-based ordering logic so TSG's capital is deployed efficiently; flag risk promptly when purchase volume diverges from plan and escalate to the COO and finance when needed
  • Vendor Negotiation - Own all supplier negotiations including pricing agreements, volume rebate structures, NET terms, and credit limits with TSG's top OEM and component vendors
  • Contract Management - Maintain formal contract documentation across the supplier base, ensuring TSG's commercial interests are protected and payment terms are favorable; ensure early-pay discounts are consistently captured
  • Cost Reduction - Benchmark TSG's component costs against market rates; maintain a continuous cost-reduction pipeline by category and supplier; monitor and challenge supplier price increases through volume commitments, alternative sourcing, or renegotiation
  • Supplier Performance - Track fill rate, OTIF, backorder frequency, and lead time accuracy by vendor; conduct regular business reviews; hold partners accountable to commitments; develop backup sourcing for high-velocity SKUs
  • OEM Relationships - Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key OEM reps (TaylorMade, Titleist, Callaway, PING, Cobra, Mizuno, Srixon) to gain early visibility into availability, allocation, and launch timing; pre-position shaft and grip inventory ahead of major head releases
  • Category Strategy - Develop purchasing strategies for heads, shafts, grips, and accessories accounting for demand velocity, lead times, and launch cycles; lead the annual purchasing calendar including tradeshow buying, pre-season commitments, and closeout strategies
  • Dead Stock Management - Monitor inventory age and health across all categories; lead markdown, return, or liquidation strategies for slow-moving and excess stock
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with finance and operations to set monthly inventory targets and align buying with cash flow constraints; work with the VP of Operations on warehouse capacity alignment; support the COO in board-level reporting on inventory and supplier health
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred
  • 5+ years of procurement or supply chain experience, with a track record of owning the buying function directly - not just managing others who do it
  • Demonstrated success in vendor negotiation - pricing, terms, and contract structure - with measurable outcomes
  • Strong analytical foundation - comfort with ERP/POS data, spreadsheet-based planning tools, and inventory turn mechanics
  • Experience in specialty retail, consumer goods, or a high-SKU business with seasonal demand patterns; golf industry familiarity is a meaningful plus
  • Financial fluency sufficient to partner credibly with a CFO on cash flow, working capital, and margin conversations
  • A bias toward ownership - doesn't wait to be told inventory is off; builds the systems that surface those signals and acts on them
  • Clear, direct communication style; able to hold vendors accountable without being adversarial
  • Must be onsite at Scottsdale, AZ headquarters
We Offer:
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($110K-$125K base salary)
  • Benefits include medical, dental, and vision plans plus an optional 401k plan
  • 2 weeks of Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid national holidays
  • Fun perks including free custom-fit golf equipment through the seeding program
  • The opportunity to be a key driver of profitability at the undisputed global leader in custom club fitting and building
