Job description

Overview

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and politically savvy Senior Federal Affairs Advisor to support and grow Joby Aviationโ€™s Washington, D.C. government affairs presence. This individual will report to and work alongside the Head of Federal Affairs to execute day-to-day engagement with Congress, federal agencies, and key advocacy coalitions, advancing Jobyโ€™s interests in advanced air mobility, defense, transportation, and emerging technology policy.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Federal Affairs in executing federal government engagement strategy across legislative and executive branches, with emphasis on defense, aerospace, transportation, energy, and innovation portfolios
  • Help build and maintain relationships with congressional staff, agency contacts, DoD personnel, trade association representatives, and advocacy coalition partners
  • Monitor, research, and summarize relevant legislation, regulatory developments, appropriations, and agency activity affecting advanced air mobility (AAM) and eVTOL markets
  • Draft policy briefings, one-pagers, fact sheets, talking points, and internal memos that clearly communicate Jobyโ€™s policy positions and technology story to government and executive audiences
  • Support scheduling, preparation, and follow-through for Hill meetings, agency briefings, coalition events, and industry conferences.
  • Represent Joby at congressional hearings, trade association working groups, and industry coalition meetings as needed
  • Advance and protect the companyโ€™s interests in federal policy discussions, funding programs, defense procurement processes, and emerging regulatory frameworks
  • Partner with cross-functional teamsโ€”especially engineering, legal, business development, and executive leadershipโ€”to gather technical inputs and translate them into clear, accessible policy narratives
  • Assist with lobbying disclosures, registration maintenance, and ensure all activities comply with federal lobbying laws and ethical standards
  • Support policy budget tracking and assist with reporting on government affairs activities
  • Serve as liaison to Safety teams
Required
  • 8+ years of experience in federal government affairs, legislative affairs, or public policy
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Working knowledge of U.S. federal government structures, the legislative process, appropriations cycles, and regulatory workflows
  • Strong research and writing skills; ability to synthesize complex policy information into clear, concise materials for senior executives and government officials
  • Demonstrated interest in or exposure to defense, aerospace, transportation, or emerging technology policy
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable engaging congressional staff, agency contacts, and internal leadership
  • Strong ethics, discretion, and ability to navigate sensitive government interactions with professionalism
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
Desired
  • Security clearance (current or prior)
  • Hill staff, Executive branch, corporate government relations, or agency experience
  • Masterโ€™s degree in public policy, political science, international affairs, or a related field is a plus
  • Strong research and writing skills with a genuine interest in the intersection of aviation, defense, and emerging technology
  • Proactive, organized, and eager to build expertise across a generalist policy portfolio at one of the most exciting companies in aerospace
Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $130,500-229,100/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Joby also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with a company match, an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and more.

This position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a โ€œUS Personโ€ as defined by 22 C.F.R. ยง 120.15. โ€œUS Personโ€ includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
