What does a head architect do?

A Head Architect is responsible for overseeing the overall design and planning of building projects, ensuring that architectural concepts meet both client needs and regulatory standards. They lead a team of architects and designers, collaborate closely with engineers and construction professionals, and make key decisions on materials, aesthetics, and functionality. The Head Architect also manages budgets, timelines, and communicates with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Their role is both creative and managerial, balancing innovative design with practical considerations.

What is the difference between Head Architect vs Project Architect?

The Head Architect typically holds a senior leadership position, overseeing multiple projects and guiding overall design strategies. The Project Architect focuses on managing individual projects, ensuring design quality and coordination. Both roles require licensure and design expertise, but the Head Architect emphasizes leadership and strategic planning, while the Project Architect concentrates on project execution and client communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a head architect, and why are they important?

To excel as a Head Architect, you need advanced architectural design skills, deep knowledge of building codes, and typically a professional degree in architecture with a valid architect license. Proficiency in CAD/BIM software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and project management tools is standard, along with LEED certification often being advantageous. Strong leadership, effective communication, and strategic problem-solving are essential soft skills for guiding teams and collaborating with clients and stakeholders. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure innovative, compliant, and successful project outcomes while leading multidisciplinary teams.

How does a head architect typically collaborate with other departments during large-scale projects?

A Head Architect works closely with various departments, including engineering, construction, project management, and client teams, to ensure that architectural designs align with both functional and aesthetic goals. Regular coordination meetings are held to discuss project timelines, address technical challenges, and integrate feedback from stakeholders. This collaboration is essential for resolving conflicts, managing design changes, and ensuring the project stays on schedule and within budget. Effective communication and leadership are key, as the Head Architect often acts as the bridge between creative vision and practical implementation.

Job description

We're searching for an experienced hardware engineer who thrives at the intersection of architecture, RTL, and verification. The right candidate will bring both hands-on technical expertise and the ability
to guide teams through complex design cycles that push the limits of modern silicon.
What You'll Work On
Own the architecture and RTL development of advanced hardware blocks, ensuring successful integration into large-scale systems.
Drive verification strategies for highly complex modules, collaborating closely with verification engineers and system architects.
Contribute to end-to-end chip design workflows, from early architecture definition to final tapeout.
Partner with cross-functional teams to refine specifications and validate hardware/software interfaces.
Share knowledge and mentor peers, helping grow technical depth across the team.
Explore and apply modern ML techniques in the context of chip design automation and optimization.
Qualifications
What You Bring
5+ years of experience working in chip design environments, ideally with contributions to production tapeouts.
Demonstrated expertise developing architectures and RTL for sophisticated IP or subsystems.
Background in cutting-edge chip organizations (CPUs, GPUs, SoCs, or leading EDA teams).
Proven leadership in technical or team-building capacities.
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
Technical Expertise
Strong proficiency in SystemVerilog/Verilog and modern SoC design methodologies.
Hands-on programming skills in Python for design automation or tooling.
Familiarity with verification methodologies (UVM highly valued).
Experience developing IP in areas like PCIe5, PHY, LPDDR, memory controllers, NoCs, CPU subsystems, or similar domains.
Understanding of hardware/software co-design principles.
Why is This a Great Opportunity
Join as Head of Hardware to lead the transition from tool development to building chips faster than Nvidia or Apple, with clear path to technical leadership as they scale.
