Job description

Senior Estimator

Watson Civil Construction, Inc. is a heavy/highway contractor specializing in FDOT projects, large site infrastructure, underground, and road work with more than 300 employees working throughout Florida. We are a dynamic and rapidly growing company that is currently seeking a Heavy Civil Senior Estimator to work in our Tampa, Florida or Jacksonville/St. Augustine, FL office. It is a fast-paced environment and we work hard, but it is rewarding being a premier civil construction firm.

The duties of the position include overseeing the accuracy and completeness of cost proposal preparation and the submittal of proposals to clients through either bidding or negotiation. Further, pursue Design-Build opportunities by identifying projects, construction partners, and design firms, as well as overseeing the DB cost proposals.

Job Description

  • Identify and solicit projects to bid within the company's core markets.
  • Analyze and interpret contract documents including engineering plans, specifications and geotechnical reports.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS software.
  • Perform quantity take-off analysis.
  • Solicit and analyze supplier and subcontractor proposals.
  • Prepare project schedules using Primavera P6 CPM software.
  • Prepare risk assessment analysis through the evaluation of contract documents and geotechnical reports.
  • Work in a team environment, assisting and training other estimators.
  • Develop standardized estimating systems and databases.
  • Strive to build effective relationships with clients, architects, engineers, specialty contractors and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • DOT experience is a must, FDOT is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in HCSS or similar estimating software, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Primavera P6, Agtek, Auto-CAD.
  • Experienced in preparing hard-bid DOT, municipal and private marketplace cost proposals.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Building Construction, or Building Science; or equivalent 5-10-year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in civil construction.
  • Prior experience in an estimating team environment.
  • Proficient mathematical and computer skills.
  • Must be highly motivated, organized, and possess a strong positive worth ethic.
  • A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Highly detail oriented with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
