Hcss Heavybid information

What is HCSS HeavyBid?

HCSS HeavyBid is a specialized construction estimating software used by contractors to create accurate and detailed bids for heavy civil projects such as highways, bridges, and utilities. The software streamlines the estimating process by allowing users to input labor, equipment, material costs, and project data, helping companies generate competitive estimates efficiently. HeavyBid also integrates with other project management tools and accounting systems, making it easier to manage bids from initial estimate to final submission. Its features are designed to reduce errors, save time, and improve the accuracy of bids.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an HCSS HeavyBid estimator?

To thrive as an HCSS HeavyBid Estimator, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of construction estimating principles, and familiarity with civil, heavy, or infrastructure projects, often backed by a degree in construction management or engineering. Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid software, Microsoft Excel, and sometimes other project management tools is essential, and certifications like Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) can be advantageous. Attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help estimators collaborate with teams and accurately interpret project requirements. These skills ensure accurate, competitive bids and contribute to a company's success in winning and delivering profitable construction projects.

How does a HeavyBid estimator typically interact with project managers and other departments during the bidding process?

As a HeavyBid estimator, you’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams throughout the bidding process. Collaboration is key: you’ll gather input on project requirements, clarify scope details, and ensure that material and labor costs are accurately reflected. Frequent meetings and cross-departmental communication ensure that bids are both competitive and compliant with client expectations. This teamwork-driven environment helps streamline workflows and reduces the likelihood of errors or omissions in the final proposal.

Job description

Are you a recent Civil Engineering or Construction Management graduate looking to build your career in heavy civil construction?

We are hiring a Project Engineer to join our team and work alongside experienced Project Managers and Superintendents on some of Northern California's most challenging heavy civil and highway projects.

This isn't a role where you'll spend your days behind a desk. You'll be in the field learning how projects are built—from preconstruction through closeout—while developing the technical and leadership skills needed to become a Project Manager.

What You'll Do

  • Support project planning, scheduling, and field operations
  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors
  • Track production, quantities, and project costs
  • Participate in jobsite meetings, safety planning, and quality control
  • Gain exposure to industry-leading software including Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid, Vista, and Trimble Business Center

We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications
  • Willingness to work on active construction sites and travel to project locations as needed
  • A proactive attitude and a desire to learn from experienced industry leaders

Why Goebel Construction?

  • Competitive salary: $75,000–$95,000
  • Structured mentorship from experienced construction leaders
  • Direct exposure to Caltrans and federally funded heavy civil projects
  • Clear career progression toward Project Manager and Senior Estimator
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
  • Vehicle allowance or company truck (project dependent)
  • Ongoing training, certifications, and professional development

If you're looking for a company that invests in developing the next generation of heavy civil construction leaders, we'd love to hear from you.
