Job description

Creative Engagement Solutions, LLC (CES) is looking for a versatile Geospatial Specialist with some background in Data Science to help produce the spatial analyses, risk assessments, interactive maps, dashboards, and training visualizations that support our public sector clients. With CES, you will contribute across the analytical workflow while partnering with subject matter experts, instructional designers, graphic designers, and project managers to ship work that holds up under government scrutiny. If you are a curious, adaptable, and detail-oriented analyst who values clear, reproducible methodology over flashy one-off outputs, we would love to meet with you! We are looking to hire for this position before the end of July.

The Geospatial Specialist will contribute to spatial analysis and modeling, cartographic and dashboard design, data integration, methodology documentation, accessibility review of map and graphic deliverables, and ongoing maintenance of geospatial products and data pipelines. Day-to-day work spans flood-risk and hazard modeling, parcel- and jurisdiction-level analysis, interactive web maps and dashboards, training and outreach visualizations, and supporting tooling across multiple concurrent contracts.

You must:

  • Be a motivated, self-starter who takes initiative and meets deadlines.
  • Be highly organized and able to manage your own time across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Be able to effectively explain technical and analytical decisions to non-technical stakeholders, including elected officials and community audiences.
  • Be comfortable working with inherited datasets, geodatabases, and prior analyses without having to redo everything from scratch.
  • Produce maintainable, well-documented analyses and reproducible workflows.
  • Be able to track and report on works in progress, accomplishments, and completed projects.
  • Deliver incremental, reviewable work.
  • Live in the D.C. Metro Area or open to relocation.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, urban planning, data science, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of five years' work experience in geospatial analysis, data science, or related applied work, or an impressive portfolio (please provide samples and any public-facing maps or dashboards).
  • Esri stack fluency: ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, plus at least two of Experience Builder, Dashboards, StoryMaps, Survey123, Field Maps.
  • Python for spatial and data work: geopandas, rasterio, shapely, arcpy, and pandas.
  • SQL and pragmatic database design (PostgreSQL with PostGIS preferred).
  • Cartography for non-technical audiences.
  • Git fluency for version control of analyses, scripts, and outputs.
  • Accessibility implementation for digital deliverables: Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA, accessible color palettes in maps, alt text for graphics, and accessible PDFs.
  • Must be local to the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.

Skills that set you apart:

  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential.
  • GIS Professional (GISP) certification.
  • Scrum Certification(s).
  • Public-sector or government project experience.
  • Working knowledge of FEMA datasets (BCAT, National Flood Hazard Layer, NFIP claims data, HAZUS outputs, Risk Rating 2.0 concepts, BCA tool inputs) and equivalent state-level hazard and dam safety data.
  • R, scikit-learn, or comparable tooling for predictive risk modeling and statistical analysis.
  • Tableau or Power BI for non-spatial dashboarding.
  • Web mapping with Leaflet, Mapbox, or open-source equivalents.
