What is a Hau Tree?

A Hau Tree, also known as Hibiscus tiliaceus, is a tropical flowering tree native to coastal regions in the Pacific and Asia. It grows quickly and is known for its heart-shaped leaves, yellow flowers, and sprawling branches. In Hawaii and other Pacific Islands, the Hau Tree is valued for its shade, traditional uses in making ropes and canoes, and its role in preventing coastal erosion. The tree is not a job title, but rather a species of tree often found in tropical landscapes and used in landscaping, conservation, and cultural practices.
