Job description

Objective: Harper General Contractors seeks a dynamic Regional Superintendent to provide leadership to ourNorthern Coastal Region of SC and the Southern Coastal Region of NC. The position will offer extremely competitive pay based on skillset.

The Regional Superintendent promotes the company mission statement by acting as the next level support channel for Project Superintendents assigned to the Region. Within the region, this position has primary responsibility for all field operations including safety, quality, production, personnel, and equipment; with these duties carried out through effective management of our project Superintendents.


Essential Functions:

  • Meet with Superintendents, Project Managers, Estimators, and others as necessary to assist in the scheduling and planning of projects.
  • Meet with Superintendents and others in coordinated pre-planning meetings for overall project construction and specific critical areas such as mass concrete and process equipment installation.
  • Available to take on special assignments as directed by VP ESD and/or General Superintendent regarding project construction, warranty, and punch list activities.
  • Oversee all field labor, equipment utilization, quality control, and labor coordination; ensure safety on the job and make sure project is completed under budget and on time.

Safety

  • Take all necessary measures and precautions to ensure that OSHA and Company safety regulations are strictly implemented.
  • Responsibly monitor field operations to confirm Superintendents are creating and maintaining safe worksites for the protection of employees, Trade Partners, and the public.
  • Support safety training; orient and instruct Superintendents on safety requirements and verify compliance of all Trade Partners by observing field operations.

Quality

  • Help superintendents seek better understanding of the plans and specifications.
  • Enforce quality-control procedures.
  • Represent the company to Clients, engineers, and Trade Partners within the region.
  • Walk all jobs and ensure they meet or exceed company standards.

Production

  • Available to Superintendents to assist with in planning and organizing the work at the jobsite to ensure completion of the project according to the schedule.
  • Available to assist Superintendents with managing Trade Partners and help as necessary with ensuring Trade Partners are cooperative in providing proper resources to the work.
  • Coordinate with superintendents regarding staffing and equipment needs for projects.
  • Review, with Superintendents during visits to projects, their plans for scheduling work over the next two to six weeks and offer input as needed.

Cost Control/Preconstruction

  • Identify and recommend process improvements and cost savings in construction activities.
  • Ensure that Superintendents understand how costs relating to labor, materials, Trade Partners, equipment, and general conditions affect the job cost and profit objectives.
  • Serve as subject matter expert with respect to materials and methods during the preconstruction process.

Personnel

  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Superintendents to assign Harper employees to meet jobsite needs for personnel.
  • Resolve employee concerns/disputes with input/involvement of HR as necessary; and address any performance or behavioral issues of Harper personnel.
  • Approve and schedule vacation days of Superintendents and Harper jobsite personnel and assign others to fill voids as necessary due to vacation time being taken.

Equipment

  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers and/or General Superintendent/Equipment Manager/Coordinator to meet jobsite equipment needs and to plan for future equipment needs.
  • Enforce existing equipment maintenance and reporting requirements and ensure that responsible parties are maintaining Harper equipment and vehicles in a safe, operable, and clean condition.

Information Technology

  • Must be proficient in the computer technologies Harper utilizes within the Superintendent role, making sure that Superintendents are equipped to fully participate in keeping up with design documents, project administration, scheduling, etc.
  • Recommend professional development and technical training as necessary to ensure all Superintendents are proficient in computer technologies.

Work Environment:While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Physical Demands:The Regional Superintendent may be required to work in a variety of conditions relative to construction jobsite environments and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, as assigned. Weather and climate conditions will vary throughout the progress of a project and this role must be able to inspect all ongoing construction activities over the duration of the assigned project. This role requires walking over varied terrain, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Lifting requirements vary from minimal loads to heavy; but help is always available with heavier loads. Inspection for quality, consistency and completeness of work frequently requires climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.

Travel Required: Regular travel to multiple sites daily or weekly. Potential overnight or extended travel to reach distant projects. Driving a company-owned vehicle is required to perform the duties of a Regional Superintendent. The Regional Superintendent is required to have a valid state-issued license, a satisfactory motor vehicle record, safe driving behavior, and must adhere to our Driving and Truck Policy.


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years total onsite Superintendent role solely managing work greater than 40mm of water and wastewater construction.
  • Ability to manage several jobs at once up to 100mm revenue at one time.
  • Experience with Harper GC may be a plus.
  • Office experience with Microsoft office (Excel, word, project & Outlook) and Procore preferred.
