Job description

First United Bank is accepting applications for a Full Time Software Specialist in our Operations Center.

Job Purpose:

Under guidance from the CIO/CTO the Software Specialist serves as a resource to bridge the gap between business units and the technology solutions.  This role focuses on analyzing banking operations, supporting initiatives across core banking systems, digital channels, data platforms, and supporting enterprise applications, ensuring solutions align with regulatory expectations, information system standards, and operational controls. This position requires thorough knowledge of servers as well as desktop computing architecture, as well as network administration tools to provide overall support of new and existing computer systems to the entire banking staff. 

Duties:

Assumes responsibility for providing effective technical support for all users.

  • Acts as a project leader for the overall delivery of platform projects.  Develops project scope and plans, and coordinates tasks.  Actively serves in the role of liaison between internal departments, technical staff, outside solution providers, and the project team to effectively develop, execute and monitor project implementation.
  • Works closely with designated business units and vendors to identify information requirements and seek opportunities to build systems based on new computing architectures to improve business processes and support critical business strategies.
  • Collaborate with vendors, IT staff and other stakeholders to identify client requirements, assess impacts to other data and systems, consider available technologies, compare costs and benefits, and recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate with vendors, IT staff and other stakeholders to define detailed client requirements and systems interfaces, assess available technologies, and develop and present solutions.
  • Works closely with the systems group, operations, and other IT functional areas that enable multi-platform application development.
  • Ensures that system specifications and requirements are documented and assists with the development and maintenance of written policies and procedures.
  • Strong working relationships with business units and vendors
  • Maintains up-to-date status reports for projects.
  • Focuses on internal clients as the customer and consistently ensures high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Focuses on the security and regulatory aspects related to implementing new systems.
  • Participates in job specific training, various bank training programs, and complies with BSA, AML and all bank policies and procedures as required.

Performance Measurements:

  1. Assigned tasks and functions are completed in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  2. Good working relations exist with users.  Users’ concerns are promptly addressed and problems effectively resolved.
  3. Required reports and documentation are complete and current.
  4. Management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant or recurring problems.
  5. Continued education on new hardware and software.
  6. Good working relations exist with Information Technology personnel.
  7. Bank/customer information and equipment/software assets are kept secure.

Skills/Qualifications:

Education/Certification:       

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prefer bachelor’s degree in management information services (MIS), Computer Sciences (CS), but will consider equivalent work experience
  • A+ Certification and MCSE certifications preferred
  • Key industry certifications preferred (i.e. Microsoft, Cisco, etc.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understanding of PC hardware and operating systems
  • Knowledge of program applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer hardware systems (e.g. desktops, laptops, servers, computer peripherals)
  • Knowledge of network topologies, equipment, and issue resolution procedures
  • Knowledge and experience with banking applications preferred

Experience required:

  • 4 – 6 years Banking and/or IT experience

Skills/abilities:

  • Able to work well independently.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Solid oral and written communications abilities.
  • Ability to assist and train others.
  • Self-motivator and team player
