Job description

Senior Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) Engineer
Purpose:
  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for an Senior Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and operate full Hardware in the Loop test systems supporting weapon system and component evaluation in our Huntsville, AL HWIL facilities.
  • The ideal candidate has deep experience architecting HWIL environments, integrating weapon system hardware/software, and operating real time test executives within closed loop simulation frameworks.

Job Description:
  • Lead the design and architecture of complete HWIL systems, including simulation, real time control, I/O, instrumentation, and weapon system interfaces.
  • Define HWIL system requirements, interfaces, and integration strategies.
  • Integrate weapon system hardware, software, and laboratory test equipment with real time simulation and test execution environments.
  • Configure, operate, and maintain real time test executives for closed loop weapon system testing.
  • Select and integrate PCIe and other high speed I/O hardware into real time OS environments.
  • Develop and implement stimulation/emulation strategies for flight software, sensors, and guidance components.
  • Lead test planning, execution, data review, and performance assessment.
  • Diagnose system level hardware/software interoperability issues during HWIL operation.
  • Oversee lab configuration management, documentation, and safety practices.
  • Coordinate with cross disciplinary teams (systems, software, hardware, simulation, test) to ensure successful end to end HWIL capability.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers, vendors, and government stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Software, Computer, Electrical, or similar Engineering field and at least 8+ years of experience in HWIL system design, real time simulation, or weapon system integration.
  • Must have demonstrated experience building and operating real time, closed loop HWIL environments.
  • Must be proficient with Linux and real time operating systems.
  • Must be fluent in C/C++ for real time applications.
  • Must have a strong background in system-level debugging across hardware and software.
  • Must have experience integrating test equipment, instrumentation, and high speed I/O devices.
  • Must have the ability to clearly document architectures, design decisions, and test results.
  • Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with real-time test executives such as Simulink RT, Speedgoat, RTLinux variants, or custom frameworks, preferred.
  • Experience integrating missile or weapon system electronics, preferred.
    Familiarity with GDB, Git, VS Code, and kernel-level configuration and customization, preferred.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, preferred.

Security Requirements:
  • Must have an Active Secret clearance and the ability to maintain a clearance.

Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional travel-less than 10%.
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
  • Requirements consistent with office/administrative work.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information and repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
