Overview

The Development Engineer leads the development, integration, and verification of flight‑critical control actuation systems and power systems, including power supplies, power distribution units (PDUs), control electronics, and actuation drive systems. This role has full accountability for integration execution, and qualification testing, overseeing a multi‑discipline test organization that spans development, integration, and formal qualification testing.

The position manages test engineers, integration-focused test technicians, and qualification test technicians, ensuring efficient transition from early development hardware through system qualification and customer acceptance in compliance with aerospace and defense standards. The team will document the test results and in general collaborate with the design engineers to ensure the designs meet specified requirements and program goals. The team will support internal and external development and qualification test activities and manage the required laboratory facilities and equipment.

Education / Experience
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (Aerospace preferred)
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electronic laboratory work in a design and development engineering environment
  • Experience with Aerospace testing standards such as MIL-STD-810 and/or RTCA-DO-160 is highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems Engineering is preferred, Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or technical certification in a related field is preferred. Mechanical aptitude gained through other experience will be considered
  • Thorough understanding of electronic and electro‑mechanical principles
  • Attentive to detail and ability to understand and follow work instructions
  • Good oral and written English skills
  • Able to use and work with schematic diagrams and engineering drawings
  • Position requires a detail‑oriented individual who must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Bill of material requisitioning
  • Lead lab management and 6S events
  • Review and approve test procedures and reports
  • Familiar with AS9100 and ISO standards helpful
  • This position may require up to 40% travel to local and non‑local sites
Additional Duties / Responsibilities
  • Seek and document Lean ideas to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Track inventory of all tools and equipment
  • Procure new, rent, or repair instruments and equipment to ensure adequate supply for all development programs and active production programs
  • Keep workstation clean and free of unnecessary debris
  • Compliance with and enforcement of ESD rules and procedures
  • Will be required to perform other job duties as requested, directed or assigned
  • Excellent organizational skills with focus on detail
  • Complete assigned jobs with minimal/no supervision
  • Foster a positive, cooperative and safe work environment through effective communication at all levels of the Marotta organization

Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical leadership for control actuation systems and power systems, ensuring robust, flight‑worthy designs
  • Act as technical authority for integration and test strategy, trade studies, and risk mitigation
  • Drive disciplined execution through gated reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FCA/PCA)
Test Engineering (Plans, Procedures & Strategy)
  • Integration and verification strategies
  • Test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria
  • Automated test solutions and data analysis methods
  • Ensure requirements traceability from system requirements to verification methods
  • Review and approve test documentation for technical rigor and compliance
Program Execution & Customer Interface
  • Support proposals, technical risk assessments, and program planning
  • Serve as primary interface for integration and test activities with customers and certification authorities
  • Lead Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), qualification status reviews, and customer audits
  • Ensure integration and test execution meets cost, schedule, and performance commitments
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Systems and Design Engineering to ensure verification completeness and safety compliance
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing Engineering on DFM/DFT and production test strategies
  • Work with Quality, Safety, and Configuration Management to support audits and certifications
  • Support transition from development through production and sustainment
  • Position entails exposure to typical manufacturing (i.e., Machine Shop, Assembly, Testing, etc.) environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Continual repetitive use of hands and arms

Salary Range: $137.000 - $150,000
