Job description

Our hospital culture is built around growth and learning. Our MDVM loves to mentor and has spent most of her career hosting externs. We also have an array of doctors with different levels of experience starting from new graduates to doctors who have been practicing for 30-plus years. We love to collaborate on cases and learn from one another. We have 11 doctors and 6 LVTs that allow us to give the best patient care and elevate our team. By the end of 2023, we will have expanded our clinic to include reproduction, 2 surgery suites, and a dental suite.
 
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.  
 
Most externship experiences at Harbor Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
