Job Description
Harbor Point Marinas is seeking an experienced, service-oriented Dock Master to oversee the daily dock operations and customer experience at our waterfront marinas in Stamford, CT.
The Dock Master will serve as a key point of contact for marina customers, boaters, guests, and dock staff and will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and professional operations throughout the marina. This is a hands-on position requiring strong knowledge of boating and marina operations, exceptional customer service skills, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced waterfront environment.
The ideal candidate combines practical marina experience with a hospitality mindset and takes pride in maintaining a safe, organized, and first-class environment for boaters and guests.
Responsibilities of the Dock Master
  • Oversee daily dock operations to ensure a safe, organized, and exceptional marina experience.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for marina customers, boaters, guests, and visitors.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with vessel arrivals and departures, docking, line handling, and slip assignments.
  • Coordinate daily slip activity and communicate docking instructions and marina procedures to customers and guests.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and provide day-to-day direction to dockhands and seasonal marina staff.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, responsiveness, and customer service across the dock team.
  • Monitor docks, slips, utilities, equipment, and common areas and promptly identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Ensure docks and marina areas remain clean, organized, safe, and guest-ready.
  • Enforce marina rules, boating safety procedures, and company policies in a professional and customer-focused manner.
  • Monitor weather and waterfront conditions and communicate operational or safety concerns as appropriate.
  • Assist boaters with shore power, water connections, dock carts, and other marina services.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions, requests, and operational concerns.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and vendors regarding dock repairs, equipment, utilities, and other operational needs.
  • Support seasonal marina opening and closing procedures, including preparation for peak boating season and winterization activities.
  • Maintain appropriate marina logs, records, incident reports, and operational documentation.
  • Assist with marina events, waterfront activations, and other Harbor Point initiatives as needed.
  • Collaborate with property management, security, maintenance, and other Harbor Point teams to support safe and seamless waterfront operations.
  • Assist with emergency response and marina safety procedures as needed.
Requirements of the Dock Master
  • 3+ years of experience in marina operations, dock management, boating, marine services, or a related waterfront environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of recreational boating, docking procedures, line handling, marina safety, and dock operations.
  • Previous experience supervising dockhands, marina staff, or another operational team preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide a polished, hospitality-driven experience.
  • Comfortable working directly with boat owners, captains, guests, vendors, and other marina stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional while responding to changing weather, vessel activity, customer needs, and operational issues.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and identify issues before they become larger problems.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing the physical requirements associated with marina operations.
  • Ability to safely handle dock lines, equipment, and other marina-related materials.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with marina management or reservation systems is a plus.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays during the boating season as needed.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Boating license/certification or USCG credentials are a plus.
