Position Summary: The Yard Hand / Maintenance Technician is responsible for helping with the day-to-day operations of an oilfield pipe yard while also performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on pipe inspection equipment, certification equipment, and general yard equipment. This position requires someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and willing to perform a variety of hands-on tasks.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the loading, unloading, moving, organizing, and storing of oilfield pipe and related materials.
  • Operate forklifts, loaders, cranes, or other yard equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Help maintain an organized and safe pipe yard.
  • Assist with pipe inspection, testing, and certification activities as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on pipe inspection and certification equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues when needed.
  • Maintain and repair general yard equipment, tools, machinery, and facilities.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to help keep it in safe and reliable working condition.
  • Inspect equipment for damage, wear, or other problems and report issues to management.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical equipment to complete repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist with welding, fabrication, or other repair work as needed and as qualified.
  • Keep work areas, equipment, and tools clean and organized.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Assist other yard personnel and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in an oilfield pipe yard, industrial yard, equipment maintenance, or a similar environment preferred.
  • Mechanical experience and the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Experience working with pipe inspection or certification equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other yard equipment, or willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
  • Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently.
  • Must be willing to perform general yard work and maintenance duties as needed.

Working Conditions:
  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
  • The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
