Job description

The CAE Analyst II utilizes computer-aided engineering (CAE) software tools to support and optimize the design engineering process for products, components, or structures in various industries. The role will build models using CAE tools and performs analysis to find flaws or inefficiencies in designs and to model solutions. The CAE Analyst II employs CAE tools to enable benchmarking, concept design, prototype development, simulation, and testing protocols. This position is located in Livonia, MI.
Responsibilities:

  • Build models for various applications in automotive, aerospace, and industrial segments using commercial software (MSC-NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS Mechanical).
  • Conduct CAE analysis under the guidance of a lead engineer or supervisor using CAE tools and support analysis with sound engineering explanation and hand calculations.
  • Review results and findings with the lead engineer or supervisor and provide analytical insight
  • Recommend alternative analysis approaches and design solutions to meet the functional targets
  • Connect simulation with practical aspects of Cost/Weight/Investment (CWI), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Maintain pertinent information in assigned location and perform data cleanup.
  • Learn different computer-aided engineering software packages quickly.
  • Contribute to existing and develop new analyses capability as part of continuous improvement.
Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum 1 year of CAE analysis experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge in strength of materials and failure theory for metals and composites and vibration concepts.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles and aptitude in modeling and simulation with ability to solve engineering problems.
  • Good understanding of kinematics, static and dynamics.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to use hand calculations to validate input and results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical data to various audiences.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
  • Experience in writing scripts and process automation.
  • Experience in modal, point mobility, and acoustic analysis.
  • Experience in strength, stiffness and stress (including thermal) in linear and nonlinear (material and contact) domains.
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident allowing for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (C++, Java and/or Python).
  • Knowledge of finite element pre-processors, solvers and post-processors (Altair Hyperworks, ANSA &META, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, OPTISTRUCT, ANSYS, nCODE and FEMFAT).
  • Strong aptitude in modeling and simulation with ability to solve brand new engineering problems.
