Job description

Overview

Full-Time Weekend Family AssistantNew York City

A warm and established New York City family is seeking a full-time Family Assistant to join their household team. This is a newly created role designed to support existing staff and fill in the gaps across housekeeping, childcare, and simple meal preparation. The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely loves both a tidy home and the presence of children - someone who can move fluidly between tidying, school pickup facilitation, and getting dinner on the table without missing a beat.

The family includes school-age children and a small, collaborative household team already in place. This hire is very much a supportive one - the right person will thrive working alongside existing staff, feel equally at home folding laundry or supervising an afternoon, and bring a calm, warm presence to the household. Discretion, flexibility, and a genuine team-first mindset are essential. Travel is part of the role and includes seasonal time in the Hamptons as well as other domestic and occasional international destinations throughout the year.

  • Schedule: Friday-Monday, 8am-7pm (flexibility needed to work a rotational schedule that might deviate from these days)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Local candidates only!

Responsibilities

  • Daily tidying, light housekeeping, and general upkeep of the home between weekly housekeeper visits
  • Laundry and household organization
  • Afternoon childcare coverage - being present with the children when the nanny steps out or the family needs an extra set of hands
  • Adjusted meal and childcare support during summer months when schedules shift
  • School pickup facilitation and afterschool supervision
  • Preparing simple, wholesome afterschool snacks and weeknight dinners for the children
  • Driving the children to activities and appointments
  • Traveling with the family both domestically and internationally
  • Communicating proactively with household team to ensure seamless daily operations

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5+ years working in a private household in a housekeeping, family assistant, or combined housekeeper/nanny role
  • Genuine comfort with and affection for children; experience working with children of varying needs is a plus
  • Calm, warm, and collaborative by nature - someone who works well within a team and is content to support rather than lead
  • Discreet, communicative, and highly reliable
  • Comfortable driving and holds a valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally with the family
  • Flexible with schedule and available for rotational or overlapping shifts as the family's needs evolve
  • Able to prepare simple, family-friendly meals; formal culinary training is not required
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience; full benefits including health and dental coverage for the employee and dependents
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Willing to undergo a detailed background check and provide excellent employment references

Compensation and Benefits

  • $125,000-$150,000 per year | DOE
  • Health and dental coverage
  • 15 days of paid time off
  • Paid sick days
  • Discretionary bonus
  • 401k
