Beach Lifeguard Position

Join Our Team for the 2026 Summer Season!

The City of Hampton is hiring Beach Lifeguards for a rewarding and action-packed summer. Make a difference while enjoying the sun, surf, and a supportive team environment!

Please note: There are multiple vacancies for this seasonal position. This job posting will remain open until filled

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older at time of hire.
  • High school graduation or GED preferred.
  • Must possess a current Lifeguard Certification (including Deep Water) from a nationally recognized organization, i.e. American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA of USA, or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete physical testing to include a demonstration of skills and abilities.
  • Must successfully complete Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).

Additional Requirements:

  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Must possess good eyesight and hearing.
  • Requires shift work to include weekends and holidays.
  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week.
  • The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
