Job description

Job Title: Seasonal Retail Associate - Halloween

Reports To: Store Manager

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Location: On-site only, The Costumer retail store (Schenectady, NY)

SUMMARY

The Costumer is a unique Halloween experience within a year-round 110 year-old costume store. Halloween is our Christmas and we're looking for a few elves (or goblins, or gremlins, or...OK, retail sales associates) to help our customers put together a Halloween costume everyone will remember. We don't just stock bagged costumes; our costumers help customers create their own characters. A Retail Sales Associate – Halloween Seasonal is responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service per Company standards: generating sales, merchandising, and safeguarding company assets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Customer Service: Provides superior and proactive customer service to every customer to ensure a great customer experience at The Costumer. Processes customer transactions by using proper cash, credit and handling procedures at the register (Point-of-Sale Computer System). Responds with a sense of urgency to all customer assistance requests.

  • Store Operations: Follows Company guidelines and uses correct methods for ringing and scanning Company product. Requests Customer updates to the Company’s mailing list. Accurately completes all forms, logs, reports and other Company documents. Follows proper policies and procedures to minimize shrinking, including but not limited to damages and inventory management. Complies with all audit procedures. Maintains housekeeping standards and cleanliness throughout the store. Completes duties assigned by Manager-on-Duty.

  • Merchandising: Maintains awareness of current promotions and sale of items throughout the store.  Assists with recovery from the store during each shift. Signs merchandise and prepare for store events using merchandise planners. Moves stock from backroom to sales floor. Maintains organization of merchandise throughout the store. Assists with completing price changes and plan-o-grams.

  • Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • One to three years’ related experience and/or training in a retail store setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of industry is recommended but not required.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and be well-organized; able to manage priorities and workflow.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Prepares reports and correspondence as needed.

  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, sale prices, total purchases, etc.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
