Job description

KNOW HOW

Minimum 18 years old and a high school diploma, or its equivalent, is required.

Experience working with young children/adults preferred.

Knowledge of children ages 2-6 and an understanding of their needs and development.

Must have experience in handling conflict situations with parents and children.

Must be capable of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, parents, program participants, and with the general public.

Must be able to work as a team member and possess the core values that meet the YMCA mission.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information on children, family and YMCA staff.

Maintain current certifications in First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 60-90 days of employment.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide safe programs and environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.

Provide a quality environment in preschool program, taking into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the YMCA.

Assist with the administrative duties of the programs, including preparing reports, maintaining records and accounts, such as class rosters and account delinquencies.

Assist with compiling program supply order and document work order needs for program repairs.

Assist with providing consistent communication to parents, participants and members as needed, throughout the year.

Attend and contribute to all staff meetings and in-service training.

Assist with scheduling special classes (gym, music, & swimming) and programs for preschool.

Adhere to the YMCA dress code and assist in monitoring staff for appropriate dress.

Have knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in emergency situations as needed.

Model and utilize appropriate YMCA behavior management techniques.

Exhibit a positive and cooperative attitude towards department staff, parents, participants and the YMCA.

Obtain and maintain current TB test, CPR and First Aid certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training, as well as other training required for YMCA Youth & Family employees.

Actively participate in the Invest-In-Youth annual campaign.

Attend all staff meetings and training associated with the department and Branch.

Assist with other projects or activities as needed.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment.

Ability to bend at the knees and waist.

Ability to visibly observe participants.

Ability to concentrate even when distracted by noise and activity.

Ability to walk up and down 20-30 steps.

Ability to serve snack.

Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.

Ability to communicate with children, parents and volunteers effectively.
