Job description

SMX is looking for a highly motivated Systems Administrator with demonstrated experience to maintain the various systems used in a Software Development program. This position will provide support at Patuxent River NAS in southern Maryland. As the Systems Administrator, you will join a team of highly-driven, supportive, and skilled professionals engaged in supporting program management, technical, or business case analysis across the NAVAIR community.

The Systems Administrator will: * Provide engineering solutions for various and unique problem sets and customers in a government software hosting facility. * Deploy and maintain physical and virtual hardware infrastructure, to include virtual machines and containers. * Perform routine maintenance and configuration changes to various physical and virtual hosts.

* Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues on servers, workstations, and IT equipment. * Maintain system backups and disaster recovery plans. * Manage user accounts and permissions.

* Deploy and maintain software applications. * Troubleshoot technical issues. * Maintain documentation to include knowledge base, incident response actions, system configurations, and other information related to system administration.

* Provide technical support to customers, ranging from resolving technical issues to providing guidance and best-practices. * Secure information systems and applications to current DoD guidance * Maintain configuration and security posture of information systems through continuous monitoring and routine security events/reporting. * Participate in project planning using Agile methodology.

* Provide networking support to on-premises infrastructure. Required Skills & Experience * Clearance Required: Top Secret * At least an interim TS is required to start in this role * BS or BA degree in a Technical Discipline * High school diploma and 6 years' additional experience within these functional duties; or an associate's degree and 4 additional years may be substituted for the bachelor's degree. * At least 2 years of experience in system administration, performing the functional duties for this position * Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance experience a must (example: scanning and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) execution) * Operating System certificate (Linux or Windows) * COMPTIA Security+ or DOD 8140 compliant qualification * Knowledge of system administration principles, theories, and concepts * Understanding and familiarity of Linux operating system and virtual networking Desired Qualifications * VMware experience * Virtual networking experience * Experience performing system backups * Experience with Networking, Containers, and Active Directory Application Deadline: 6/15/2026 #cjpost #LI-ONSITE The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
