Job description

Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and security of patients and staff? Do you possess excellent observation skills and the ability to handle critical situations calmly and efficiently? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Patrol Guard at our esteemed hospital in Durham region.

We will provide all additional training including Crisis Management, Effective Communications, Management of Resistant Behavior, Mental Health Awareness and additional healthcare training. This is a great opportunity for those looking to advance their career in security and law enforcement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor entry points and control access to the healthcare facility, verifying credentials and authorizing entry for authorized personnel.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the facility, including interior and exterior areas, to deter unauthorized access and identify potential security threats.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, including medical emergencies, disturbances, and safety hazards.
  • Follow established protocols for emergency situations, such as lockdown procedures or evacuation drills, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Interact with patients, visitors, and staff in a calm and respectful manner, resolving conflicts and addressing concerns to maintain a peaceful environment.
  • Utilize effective de-escalation techniques to manage volatile situations and prevent escalation to violence.
  • Monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and other surveillance equipment to detect suspicious activity and potential security breaches.
  • Document all security-related incidents and observations accurately, completing incident reports and notifying appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare staff, including nurses, physicians, and administrative personnel, to address security concerns and coordinate responses to emergencies.
  • Communicate effectively with external stakeholders, such as law enforcement agencies and emergency responders, to facilitate a coordinated approach to security incidents.

Requirements:

  • Valid Security Guard License and First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals in a healthcare environment.
  • Proven experience as a security guard or in a similar role, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to walk/stand 12-hour shifts providing proactive and reactive security patrols and response to incidents.
  • Ability to complete accurate and detailed report writing, multi-task and work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Police Foundations, Community Justice Services or Law Enforcement Diploma would be an asset.
  • Flexibility to work continental shifts, including weekends, and holidays.
