Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The Open Gym Supervisor will monitor the gymnasium during weeknight and weekend open Gym sessions at the Community Recreation Center (CRC).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively support the agency's risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee, attend and participate in required safety trainings
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
  • Raising and lowering of basketball hoops as needed
  • Monitor patrons for proper and safe usage of gymnasium and Park District equipment
  • Complete accident/incident reports in their entirety and submit to direct supervisor
  • Positively interact with youth, coaches, parents/guardians and team members
  • Communicate with other Park District staff (including front desk), supervisors and team leaders as needed
  • Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District's Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including its Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities.
  • Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents.
  • Obey the safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
  • Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures.
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor or to the Human Resources/Risk Management department.
  • Attend and participate in required safety training.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to project across a large area using clear and concise language
  • Ability to maintain self-control and composure in high-stress and/or difficult situations
  • Ability to work independently and to problem-solve

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to work weeknights and weekends
  • Must be able to run back and forth along the length of a basketball court
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. for 25 yards
