What is gutter cleaning?

A gutter cleaning job involves removing leaves, debris, and blockages from rain gutters to ensure proper drainage. This helps prevent water damage, roof leaks, and foundation issues caused by clogged gutters. Professionals use tools like ladders, scoops, and pressure washers to clean gutters safely and efficiently. Regular maintenance is recommended, especially in the fall and spring, to keep gutters functioning properly.

What should I expect from a typical day working in gutter cleaning?

A typical day in gutter cleaning involves traveling to different residential or commercial properties, setting up safety equipment like ladders and harnesses, and removing leaves, debris, and blockages from gutters and downspouts. You may work independently or as part of a small team, often communicating directly with clients to discuss their needs or provide updates. The work can be physically demanding and is mostly performed outdoors, sometimes in varying weather conditions. Gutter cleaning roles often offer opportunities to learn additional property maintenance skills or advance to supervisor positions. Safety awareness and attention to detail are essential to succeed and ensure both your safety and client satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in gutter cleaning, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Gutter Cleaning professional, you need basic physical fitness, the ability to safely use ladders, and a strong attention to detail; no formal qualifications are typically required, though a high school diploma can be an asset. Familiarity with hand tools such as trowels, scoopers, and power washers, as well as safety harnesses and protective gear, is important for effective and safe work. Reliability, good communication, and a strong work ethic are standout soft skills, enabling positive interactions with clients and team members. These qualities are vital for ensuring thorough, safe, and efficient gutter maintenance that protects client property and builds trust.

How much money do gutter cleaners make?

Gutter cleaners typically earn between $12 and $25 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $25,000 to $50,000 depending on experience, location, and whether they work independently or for a company. Skilled gutter cleaners who use tools like ladders and safety equipment can increase their earnings by providing efficient and reliable service.

How much should you expect to pay for gutter cleaning?

Gutter cleaning jobs typically pay between $75 and $200 per job, depending on the size of the property, the height of the gutters, and the level of debris. Professionals often charge an hourly rate of $50 to $150, and using safety equipment and ladders is essential for safety and efficiency.

Is gutter cleaning a good side hustle?

Gutter cleaning can be a viable side hustle as it requires minimal startup costs, basic tools like ladders and gloves, and can be performed on flexible schedules. It often involves physical work and safety precautions but can generate steady income for those willing to do manual labor and customer service.

Ever notice how satisfying it is to clear something that’s completely clogged and see water flow the way it’s supposed to? That’s what we do every day — and we get paid well to do it.

At Window Genie, we’re hiring Service Technicians to master the craft of professional gutter cleaning. If you’ve got the energy, a good attitude, and aren’t afraid of ladders, we’ll train you step by step. You’ll start with gutters, but you’ll also pick up skills in window cleaning, pressure washing, window tinting, and even hanging holiday lights.

No experience needed. Just bring your hustle.

Why Gutter Cleaning?

  • It’s satisfying, visible work — you see the results instantly
  • You’ll learn proper ladder safety and roofline techniques
  • You’re outside, active, and always moving
  • Plus, the pay is solid: Start at $17/hr, earn $25+/hr with commission

Benefits

  • 401(k)
  • One week paid vacation
  • Paid holidays

But don’t just take our word for it — hear it straight from the crew.

When we asked our team what they like most about the job, here’s what they said:

“The camaraderie.”

“Keeps me outside, moving, and healthy.”

“Constant change of scenery. Also, management is super cool and chill.”

“The before-and-after results.”

“Being off by 1 PM sometimes.”

“The variety of job types.”

“It’s a different setting almost every day.”

What You’ll Be Doing

Gutter Cleaning – Our core service. Removing debris, flushing downspouts, and ensuring proper drainage

Other Services – You’ll also assist with window cleaning, pressure washing, holiday light installs, and window tinting

Customer Interaction – Walk customers through the finished job, take payments, ask for reviews, suggest other services

Equipment Care – Maintain ladders, safety equipment, blowers, and tools

Skip This Job If:

  • You’re scared of heights — you’ll be up a ladder regularly
  • You’re not comfortable talking with customers
  • You’d rather be inside — this is an outdoor gig

Great Fit If You’re:

  • Into physical work and like staying active
  • Looking for hands-on skills instead of a desk job
  • Coming back to work, switching careers, or just getting started
  • A military vet — discipline and dependability go a long way here
  • Degree or no degree — we care about work ethic, not paper

This is your shot to earn solid money, learn real skills, and stay out in the field. Apply today — if you qualify, we’ll automatically set up your interview.
